Hi Susan
Sounds as if your hair followed the same path as mine. Mine is now back strong and thick and I am having it coloured every six weeks. Like Jo I think what the hell!.
Best wishes.

I'm glad this subject's come up!
I had my SCT in February 2012 and when my hair grew back it was white and grey.
My hairdresser advised me not to have it coloured when I was still taking drugs and had chemo. residue in my system, so I've put up with looking like my husband's mother for over a year. 🙁
My hair now grows really fast so I've also been reluctant about colouring it so that I don't have one of those awful stripes unless I retouch up the roots regularly.
However, I've got to the point when at 51, I want to look 51 again and not 71!!
I'm now ready to go a light golden blonde and had been wondering which semi-perm. would be the best to use. My hairdresser now says I should have no problems so am looking forward to rejuvinating myself. 😀
I'll go and take a look at the Olio.
Good morning Mavis
Thank you for your reply, coloured my hair last night, covered all the grey, my thoughts to what the hell, had it not been a success I could always put my wig on again.
Take care
Susan

Hi Michele,
Thank you for your reply, I coloured my hair with the Garnier Olia, covered all the grey, I no longer feel and look like a frump, next time I colour I will use a lighter shade, did turn out a little darker than my wig, but still looks better than the grey. Just one question did you have the SCT?, I decided not to go ahead, I was so ill with the treatment, didn't think I would get through the SCT, then I keep thinking did I do the right thing, I feel great at the moment having finished my treatment in April, no pain at all my para protein gone up a little to 6.4, but was told unless it went up to 11 they would do nothing, I would have thought 11 pretty low, do you or anyone else know what they class as high. Any help would be appreciated.
take care everyone and good luck

Hi Susan
Yes, I did have a SCT and to be quite honest, although grim, I found the 6 months of CTD treatment beforehand far worse.
After the 6 months, my PP's had dropped to below 1 and so it was a difficult decision deciding whether a SCT was necessary at that point.
However, I did go ahead as I decided the myeloma was "on the back foot" and I may aswell attack it fully.
For me it worked and I've been in a drug-free remission for 20 months now.
I may have been in the same position without the SCT, but I'll never know the answer to that.
I'll be trawling the shelves for hair colouring now thanks to your topic. Just the push I needed, so thanks for that!

Hi Susan
When my hair dropped out after SCT, it went baby blonde (apparently like the colour when I was under five) and then that dropped out again six weeks later to be replaced by a very thick dark frumpy grey colour. Initially, my hair was so thick that it stood up on end for the first couple of inches, which was quite a sight to behold!
I tried living with the dark grey colour for nearly a year, but I just couldn't get used to being totally grey. If the colour had grown back light silver grey, I would have been much happier. Prior to SCT, I was about 40% grey, together with a dark blonde. Over the past couple of years, I've tried various permanent colours for the grey. Nice and Easy colours well, but it takes a good 40 minutes on grey hair with a very strong smell of ammonia. I then swopped to their 10 minute treatment, Clairol Perfect 10, which colours well but unfortunately there aren't many colours available in blonde.
A couple of months ago, I was attracted to Garnier's Olia natural colour treatment and purchased their sandy blonde shade. The colour took well on my hair, covering the grey as promised, but the shade turned out nothing like sandy blonde – more like a dull brown. I went out and purchased a highlighter kit to try to lighten the colour.
Hope you get some good results with your chosen colour.

Hi Susan
I finished my SCT in June and last week I bought a Nice and Easy Ash Blonde hair dye. My own hair has started to grow back and its a dark grey colour – sort of non discript really, anyhow the home attempt did not work out as planned so I ended up going to my hairdresser and she put a peroxide on first then a toner afterwards that I chose from a chart. I absolutely love it and my hair still feels strong, I even let a few people at our caravan site see me without my wig this weekend gone. I would never have done that with the colour that my hair was before. I know that I am going to get root growth, but to be honest that excites me because I can then see how quick my hair is growing and I shall just pop back to the hairdressers for them to touch it up… felt the best I have since this all started, I suppose its really a confident thing and I am starting to get really fed up with wearing a wig 🙂
Good Luck

Hi Susan
my hairdresser uses the foil method to colour and/or highlight my hair so that the colour doesn't go direct onto my scalp. Obviously it touches my scalp when it's being washed out! but I feel better knowing its not staying on for very long.
all the best
