I’m quite relieved to find this post as my husband has been hiccuping madly from 24 hours after his second dose of chemo (Velcade, cyclophosphamide and prednisolone). It woke us both up a few times in the night. In his case, though, it’s not just irritating, it hurts because of the jolting to the fracture in his spine.  He has chemo clinic on Tuesday, so we’ll mention it then. He’s taking metoclopramide as anti-sickness. No sickness so far this time (chemo was Friday morning), but his stomach has been gurgling and he says it feels like a washing machine.

Any suggestions to help him feel more comfortable would be really welcome. We’re new to all this so hope we can benefit from the collective wisdom of those of you who have been living with it for longer.

    Thanks,

    Sarah

    Hi all,

I’m on day 2 of CDT and hiccups have just begun . It is sporadic at the moment hope it tails off they seem to come out of the blue and come from me boots. Not helpful with the recent chest surgery and associated tumour but hey Ho ! No other effects so far.

    Best regards

    |Well Good Folk, my tip for the dreaded Hiccups  is as follows :::

Fill mouth with water, put fingers in your ears (so you cant hear) and then swallow slowly SLOWLY.

Good Luck it works for me when i get them on Steroids and even the my family and friends everytime

Aha. But I have the answer.

Many years ago, I was being recruited for a job. The recruiting company put me up in a very 10 star swanky cottage hotel, in Wales. This was around 1980 and the wine list started at £60 a bottle! Two guys discussing buying Oil Wells sat discretely over the room from us. We had a wonderful dinner but the wife got hiccups. The wine waiter noticed and came back with wine glass which contained a small amount of light brown liquid. He had a beer mat on top of the glass.

His instructions to my good lady were to lift the beer mat and drink the liquid immediately in one swallow, you must not sniff or in hail just throw the liquid back quick as you could.

It cured the hiccups immediately – the liquid, oho, it was brown vinegar.

    Kindest regard – vasbyte
