Hi Ann, I just picked up your post asking about holiday insurance. To go to Spain, in May, cost £250 for both Mo and me. However my wife works at an Insurance Broker so she had staff discount, plus, I am not under any treatment at the moment. This was for 7 days and the insurance was bomb proof.

My only criteria are that Mo should not be left with a bill to get me back to England if the worst should happen. I went to my Doctor and asked him to give a printout of everything I must declare to the Insurance Company, your Doc may charge for this but it is worth it because in the end of the day HE is the guy that the Insurance Company will write to if you make a claim and it is in Medical langauge!

What stage? Is one of the questions you will be asked i.e. Stage 1, 2 or 3 or remission. I have tried to get an answer to this many times and I asked again at my last appointment, (I saw a new Registrar and not the Consultant). But he gave me the same answer, ?Staging is not used in Myeloma and is only suitable for the ?solid? cancers?. This becomes a problem if you are trying to get Insurance on the internet, no human contact! So when I do my insurance for Scilly Isle on Monday I am going to try to explain that to the Insurance Company.

I have really started this thread so that people can put up Companies they have used. We have done it before but it all gets lost in the mist of time and some people are not good at searching internet chat rooms threads.

I am using Citybond Suretravel Superior Travel Insurance. You can only get access through an Insurance Broker, I do not think they are on the Internet.

    Hope this helps

    Kindest Regards ? Vasbyte

p.s. Your Doctor must make a clear statement that you can go to X and fly there and back and preferably make sure it is added to your records if you can.

    Hi David
    This is a good idea,
I used World First who are on the Myeloma UK site. After your previous advice to me about including ALL the things which have ever been diagnosed over the years, I did that and we were both insured for around £180 for our New Zealand trip. They do not ask about staging which does make it easy to fill in the form. They ask more about where you are in your treatment and how often you are hospitalised etc.
    Love Helen

I might try that instead of Citybond, sounds more up to date.

    Thanks

As David said things get lost so I will put in my tuppance worth again. We used MIA the first time we went away after Stephen was diagnosed. Then we discovered we were covered for travel on our health insurance policy. So we had paid twice for the first trip >:-(

Do check your existing policies before you pay out.
