Or in this case your poo medicine. 🙂

Warning, don't read this over afternoon tea.:-)

I take a sachet of Movicol daily to keep me 'regular'… there have been many occasions when, for myriad reasons but mostly because I was feeling well, that I have lapsed and paid the consequences up to and including having to resort to mini-Enema's.

Being on Velcade I have generally been 'loose', so I must have lapsed.

I spent Saturday and Sunday in growing discomfort feeling and looking extended, finally reaching the '7 month pregnant' look. It was big but it wasn't clever because I ended up in hospital last night, bloated and hardly able to walk. Luckily for me I had reacted and had taken 4 Movicol on Saturday, followed by 6 more yesterday… up until being called in by my lead nurse. I was seen by a doctor, had bloods, sugar levels etc., full works. The doctor on call was talking about 'obstructions' and X-Rays, specialists etc., so I received a proper job fright and rightly so.

Thing is, I did not feel impacted, not in the usual way but my consultant told me this morning that the sort of state I let myself get to was potentially very dangerous. Apparently you can get impacted further up the channel and liquid can get by, giving the impression all is well but the build up will eventually need drastic measures.

Last night at about 11.30pm I 'went'… and again this morning when I woke and again mid-morning. I couldn't believe how much… so my Movicol crusade had eventually worked and the blockage is no more… and now I am home.

The world looks and feels sweet and the episode has coincided with my taste buds working again so all is well.

It is a salutatory lesson, noted and impressed on my memory… take your poo medicine if it has been prescribed and don't try and second guess or self-prescribe dependant on how you feel. I promise you that you will not want to feel like I did yesterday afternoon and evening.

    Back to your tea.:-)

    Hi Shirls,

Of all the pluses of recovery from treatment having a real taste and desire for food and drink is by far the biggest bonus… and its not just 'back to normal', everything tastes bigger and better and bolder. Bring it on… Hmm, dare I risk a 'drink' drink with my MST?

    Nah… I won't push it… enough lessons for the time being.:-D

    H i Jo,

Empty relaxed and starting to feel the real benefits of my 'Week Off'.

    Ha! Week Off… I should Coco. 🙂 😉 😛 😎 🙂

You have been busy Dai, what a shame and how did you cope with the embarrassment.
Nothing like a good clear out to give you an appetite.
Peter was the exact opposite on Velcade and had the runs constantly needed to take tablets for it it was so bad.
Just re enforces the fact that your all different in how you react to the drugs. But now like you he is bunged up, on Thalidomide. Figs and prunes coming up. Washed down with custard and a high protein powder.
Enjoy your week off, have a Guinness it will do you good or was that Mackeson?

Wonder drug indeed – it doesn't explode out of the pack and it does not work particularly well as an instant cure for blockages… but as a regular, complimentary medicine it is marvellous. (The word marvellous was used by both the ward Sister and the duty Doctor).:-D

I feel a different person today… still fatigued and 'heavy' limbed but I am at my desk and sorting domestics, planning next week and freeing myself up for a full day's writing tomorrow. 😎

One sweet day at a time. 🙂

    Dai.
