    Hi
My name is Vic and I was diagnosed with Myeloma on the 25/11/2011 after suffering crippling back pain from September which I thought was a sports injury only for it to be Myeloma.

The effect for me & my family was devastating as you all know only too well! As a very fit person who cycled 20 miles daily to work and back it has taken a lot of getting used to.

I am now on the third round of CDT after suffering a severe setback with a 2 week stay in hospital with a terrible nose bleed, chest infection & blood clot on my lungs.

I am feeing positive about the Myeloma but my main problem is a collapsed vertebrae which has caused a four inch drop in height as well as tremendous pain.

I am waiting to be referred to an orthopaedic consultant regarding Kyphoplasty to see if I am suitable for this procedure.

I noticed Glenn is about to have this procedure and wondered if you can help?

I live in Formby and wondered if you ave the name of the hospital and specialist in the North West for this?

Thanks and good luck and best wishes to all of you on this site!

    Hi Vic
A warm welcome to the site.

Sory I cant add anything to your Q re Kyphoplasty as i have not had it, done the 5 cycles of CDT then Stem Transplant.

Good Luck in your road to remission, and some one will pop on and give you the information you ask

    Keep strong

    Hi Vic
Welcome – glad to hear from you but sad that it is under these circumstances. I too have a problem with discs and they are monitoring to I will be interested to hear anything too about this procedure. At the minute I am managing with Tramadol with the occasional top up with a little bit of oramorph but even still I have pain.

    Best wishes with everything.

    Love Carolxxx

    Hi Vic
my wife was diagnosed in July 2008, and at the time of diagnosis the damage to her vertebra was so significant she was unable to support herself or walk. She underwent a vertobroplasty to "rebuild" her collapsed vertebra (under local anasthetic) and did not find the operation caused her more than a little discomfort. I believe that at that time the vertebroplasty was the preferred operation, but that now the balloon kyphoplasty is more usual.( Ellen will be able to advise you if this is so).
She quickly was back on her feet again, and now, over three years later she has full mobility ( we sail quite a lot), and doesnt have much back pain. She too lost several inches in height, and as far as we know there is no way of recovering it!
    All the best

    Hi Stuart
Thanks for making me feel there is something that can help. I will not know until I see the specialist if khyphoplasty or maybe vertoblasty is for me but I will let you know how I get on. so glad Ellen is doing so well and you are able to do all the things you enjoy.
    best wishes to you both
