Hi All.
My MiL has been in hospital for 3 weeks now, having gone in for an ECG for heart palpitations. Blood tests revealed she had kidney failure (down to 10% function)and sewas admitted. Further blood test releaved Light MM. The last three weeks have been spent trying to balance the treatments for her kidneys, heart and the MM. She has had a couple of heart attacks whilst in hospital and spent a night in ITU last week. But then on Sunday felt better than she has for a week!
On a positive note they have now put her permanent dialysis line in and she is having dialysis 3 times a week and she will be starting Velcade today. To say she is apprehensive would be an understatement. The haematology people gave her literature regarding the Velcade, which included a long list of side effects and she has become very concerned and pre-occupied by it. We are trying to convince her to just take things as they come and the hospital has to let her know all the possible side effects.
The only outstanding issue now is getting her heart problems resolved as they are reoccuring. She will hopefully be having an angiogram next week, although she may have to be taken to a different hospital for it. Once they know what the heart problem is and how to treat it she should be coming home.
She is 65 and prior to this had been a very active lady and this has knocked her, so we desperately want to see her on the road to recovery. Unfortunately, due to her underlying health issues she is not eligable for SCT but they are positive that the Velcade will improve things with the MM and therefore with her kidneys and heart.
Reading all your posts but your experiences of treatment is very helpful.
Thank you.
