Brief history. Dxd back in Feb 2001, after the normal course of VAD had STC in Nov 2001 then Interferon as a maintenance regime. Everything good until 2 years later, then had various treatments incl. Velcade, low dose melphalan, Z/Dex and eventually 2nd SCT in November 2008 with cells collected back in 2001. Have been on Thal. original dose 100mg daily reduced to 50mg. All bloods since they have shown no myeloma present. My trouble is I am having severe cramps in my legs at night, seems all muscles are affected. Have tried quinnine, magnesium, even Acupuncture, but nothing seems to work. Am getting quite desperate as I only get about 2 hours sleep and my mood is very low and weepy so if anyone has any ideas pls pass them on. Also tried sleeping with a champagne cork and a bar of soap, as I said getting desperate so will even try the mad suggestions!

    Hi Val
My husband was taking quinine too but if he did not drink sufficient liquids the cramps in his legs won.
I found myself with cramps recently and once I drank more liquid it helped. Also I am told that leg warmers help. Weight lifters suffer cramps apparently and leg warmers increase the blood flow; or something like that!
    Hope it helps

    Hi Min,

Thnx. I spend most evenings with a hot water bottle around my legs, trouble is I also suffering with menopausal flushes, so I am either too hot or too cold. Sometimes can't win. I will have a go with the leg warmers, have increased my fluids and was also told to add salt to my food, I had never ever added salt when cooking so am also giving that a go. Once again many thnx, good luck to you both.

    Hi Val

My hubby suffers with his legs, not so much cramp or even PN, just very painful, they feel very hard around the calves,I massage his legs as much as possible to take some of the tension from the calves, plus walking seems to help,it seem his leg problem is more effected with the cold.
I will not tell you what Slim suggested, but it had to do with surgery.LOL:-S
I wonder if people with the same problem, find it worst in the winter,or may be because it is winter, you are less active??? Eve

Saw my consultant this afternoon, and he advised that there was NO myeloma detected, which is good news, all my results have been the same since my 2nd SCT back in November 2008. Because of the severity of the night cramps he is going to refer me to a Neurologist, he feels it could be a very rare side effect to the Thalidomide, shall continue with the daily dose of 50mg but have a weeks break every four weeks. Apart from that am feeling pretty good is nearly 11 years since I was first dxd.
