Hello everyone this my update as promised.
Saw my Consultant today who explained the details of the treatment I'm about to go onto.
I start Revlimid along with Dex on 25th June which I will be taking until it stops working.
I will be monitored on a month to month basis and will also be given a blood thinner which will be injected to guard against clotting.
My PP's went from 10.86 on 08.05.12 up to 22.40 on 07.06.12 which is further proof (if any was needed) that MM is up and running once again.
I don't like the idea of getting back on the drug treadmill again but let's face it there's many worse things and if it works then that's all that matters.
I know I can't go on as I am so bring it on.
Now all I'm interested in is my holiday so I'm packing MM away and looking forward to having a great time.

Take care and good health to all…Keith.

    Hi Keith,

Well I am four months ahead of you on Rev @ Dex. My side effects are visible with the usual. DexEffects tm. The RevEffects tm. are less visible but they are the ones that determine good weeks and less good weeks. Fatigue seems to be the worst culprit but I'll take that and so far I can honestly say that if it carries on like this … then carry on.

The monthly check ups… the wait and see blood tests that determine the next step… to carry on or… well.

But we know all about those days… it's just at this stage it's a regular occurrence.

Enjoy your holiday Keith and all the very best with Rev and Dex… If it takes us into Carfilzomib territory we can both celebrate the next step.:-)

It really amazes me how many different ways there are to deal with a medical situation. You mentioned you will have injections to prevent clots. My medication for this is an aspirin a day! I think I prefer the aspirin method.

Anyway good luck with the treatment. I'm just on Revlamid -10mg, 3 times a week so not suffering much with any side effects thank goodness.

    Keep fighting.

    Hi Keith and all
I too am just on an aspirin a day with the revlimid, though I did take the heparin injections with me to NZ for the long haul flight, just as a belt and braces approach which seemed to do the trick. Revlimid makes me tired too and everything still tastes funny, but it's working so not complaining:-)
I hope you get on ok with the new regime Keith, and when you get away, have an absolutely brilliant holiday
    Love Helen

    Hi Keith
Good luck with the Rev/Dex treatment. I hope everything goes well for you. I'm on Rev 25mg for 21 days then 7 days off and Dex 40mg days 1-4, etc with tinzaparin injections everyday. I get the usual Dex moods 🙁 but I think I'm tolerating Rev ok – just the occasional slight cramping in my feet at night time and a bit of tiredness. My taste is coming back to me 🙂 and hopefully my PP's are taking a kicking. I'm halfway through my 3rd cycle.
Have fun in Jersey and I hope the sun shines down on you both.
    All the best

    Hi Andy
you say you have Tinzaparin injections everyday.do you administer those yourself?
I don't know what he intends to inject me with but I don't fancy having to go to the hospital everyday.
The Consultant did say he preferred this approach because he had witnessed many cases of clotting and
would rather take the preventive route than treat the problem after it arises which makes perfect sense
    to me.

BTW Helen I'm not looking forward to this funny taste scenario which I remember from the last treatment
nor do I relish the fatigue but it goes with the territory I suppose and as you rightly say if it's working then
    that's all that matters.

Take care everyone and keep fighting…Keith.

    Hi Keith
Yeah I self administer the injections. It's not too difficult you soon get used to it.

    Hi Keith,

I have been on Enoxaparin since last July… 6 months at 140mg per day and then 40mg maintenance since (I developed a DVT while on Velcade… (unusual I'm told but there you are)).;-)

I inject myself… it is very easy and usually painless (unless you catch a bruise and then it stings a little but nothing much even then. The bigger doses were worse because it can sting for a minute or so post injection as the liquid disperses… the secret is not to touch the area for a couple of minutes… if you instinctively rub the area you will cause both local pain and a gurt big bruise.:-(

The injections come in strips of two. You break one off, peel back the protective film, take out the injection and take off the needle guard. The needle is incredibly thin and very short. You pinch an area of skin below or to the side of the belly button and pop the needle in straight down… no angles. You then gently and slowly depress the plunger until all the liquid is dispersed… wait a few seconds and depress again. A guard will close down over the needle and you lift it away. I put a samall tissue over the area and cover up… remember, no rubbing.;-)

Usually a nurse will either show you how to do it for the first time or instruct you as you do it yourself. Do it yourself is best because then both of you will know that you are going to be okay with the procedure. The nurse will talk you through it either way.:-)

It really is painless and confidence is the key. Of course there will bound to be a post-brusie or two at the beginning but you will soon get used to your own routine.8-)

    Best wishes

    Dai.
