It's tough sometimes isn't it? I'm sat in a deck chair watching my husband who is not keen on gardening, do it for me. I'm trying to bite my tongue as he does it so badly, but I'm on a dex down now and can't do anything! I hate being idle, it's so frustrating.
When you get neutropaenic it can make you feel a bit crap too.
I didn't have the cyclophosphamide priming – there were no beds for admissions on the day planned and rather than lose the SCT slot provisionally booked for me they gave me double doses of gcsf for a week which worked ok.
The boys are right about the immobility on the machine though and the difficulty having a pee!

Helen, I'm the opposite, my wife Peg has green fingers, I'm the grim reaper in the garden, everything I touch dies off!

Feeling a bit better this afternoon, lovely roast chicken and home grown veg for lunch. 🙂

    Hi Tom
I've been on cyclophosphamide for over a year now and I guess I'm used to feeling crappy for a few days. My neutrophils very rarely manage to get above 1.0 so I'm neutropenic most of the time my last reading was 0.8 but as Dai often says "whatever it takes"
Good luck with your harvest and I hope you have a very successful SCT.

    Every day is a gift

Go for it Tom, all the best of luck.

(I like the Tom Senior bit – made me chuckle) Do we have a Tom Senior and Tom Junior now I wonder 😀 😀

    Kindest regards – vasbyte

    Hi Tom

Hope all goes well and you get full remission.

Ian used to do most of the heavy work in the garden so I've hired a gardener to cut the grass. Wore myself out on Sunday cutting back a huge shrub so I'll leave that to gardener too.

    Take care

Good luck Tom! I also remember the cyclopriming made me very hyperactive as well as sick, very odd combination. Hopefully you're feeling a bit better now? Then I remember I had a weird phase nearer the end of the GCSF injections of wanting to feel pain in your bones as an indication that it was working… Worrying whether I was feeling it or not. The things they put us through eh?

I wish you a bumper harvest, millions and millions of those cells.

    Good luck Tom,

As others have mentioned the harvesting cells is long and boring.

When you get them back is the interesting part: how do they make it from our blood stream into all the nooks and cranny's in our body, and then get straight back to work? My oncologist told me how but I've forgotten – for me though it's pretty cool.

let us know how the rest of the process goes. The physical side is for the most part beyond us,the Psychological side is another thing, keep thinking there's lots going on inside.

    hi Tom,

I have come late to this strand. Good luck with you stem cell collection. I hope it all goes well.

The actual harvest process can affect your bllods too. Look out for low platelets and drink milk or eat yoghurt prior to the process to help your calcium levels.

Good luck with everything. I am excited for you, it's tough to go through but hopefully it will mean a nice period of remission where you can be drug free and really enjoy life,

    Love annd best wishes,

    Mari

@san, Vicki and Colin, Maureen, Andy,

Thanks for the kind comments. I?m managed to time my treatment for the emergence of some decent weather. It?s good for the mood.

    @ David

Tom senior suits him. I?m sure he?s secretly delighted 😉

    @Helen

I?m not feeling too bad at the minute. Every now and then a bit tired but I?m sure it?s all to come. The nurse said to expect bone pain as a side effect of the GCSF injections so something else to watch out for.

    @ Denis, Mari

Thanks for the good wishes. It?s hard to believe (and stomach) how we end up at this point sometimes. 18 months ago I was happily toddling along without a care in the world.

Stiff upper lip and all that.

    Hi Young Tom

Well lets hope those injections get your bloods jumping up,the pain will be worth it,if you get as many cells out as possible.

Slim was on the machine for two days, with two train journeys of 86 miles, did not have any pain, was just a sleeping body going through the motions, thought he would do it in one day,but not to be!!!

    Good luck young Tom,Eve
