    Hi everyone,

Went away at the weekend. All was ok till I came out in a raised rash. It spread down to my legs and also inside my eyelids! I had a very sore throat and was sick.

I rang the 24hr help line at my hospital, the Myeloma nurse was lovely and told me it was a common side effect of one or both of the above.

I'm off to see my consultant in the morning, hopefully to get doses adjusted.

Back on Dex today, so that should give me a bit more energy.

Thanks for listening to my moans.

    Love
    Tina

    Hi Tina

Sorry you have had such a horrible complication. It's not easy this journey, is it. I'm glad you got such a sympathetic nurse to answer your call because you do feel alone don't you. Have they adjusted your doses? I believe you are on the 28 day cycle (I am on 21 day one).

I went to the consultant yesterday, for what should have been collection of tablets for my third treatment, to get confirmation that the rash I have is shingles! So….. a week's supply of anti shingles drugs, a week off chemo (not too unhappy about that to be honest,) and back again next Wednesday.

I had been greeted at clinic by the news that my Hb was low so I would probably need a blood transfusion next week! However, they did another blood test while I waited. and as it was back up to 10 I don't now have to have one. Dr said my breathlessness could have been caused by low Hb.

I am finding it very difficult to get blood results for myself so I can't really keep a good track of them for myself in spite of waving the Myeloma Diary in front of them at every opportunity. They always promise to come back with them but never do. I have to get the District Nurses to take another blood test on Tuesday so that they are ready when I go to clinic on Wednesday.

Do hope you are beginning to feel better.

    Love Mavis x

    Hi Mavis,
Thanks for replying. It was the allopurinol to blame. So I aam back on track with the Thaliomide. I'm on day 17 of the first 21 day course.

It seems a long way to go at the moment.

Back at hospital on Wednesday to see how things are going.

    Thanks for your support

    Love
    Tina

    Hello Tina,

It seems that a reaction to allopurinol is actually rather common. My husband was fine when he took it with CDT but had a dreadful reaction when he had it with his SCT. He went red then purple from head to foot, and then lost an entire layer of skin, all over, and yes I mean ALL over. Poor man, he felt dreadful. Luckily they will not give you allopurinol during your SCT so hopefully you wont have a repeat reaction.

I hope you are fully recovered now and I am delighted to hear your blood test results,

    Love Mari xx

    Hi all,

I too had that dreaded allopurinol reaction………. started off with a rash and then my skin started peeling off all over. Unfortunately I was given an antibiotic which itseemsthat I was also allergic to and ended up in hospital for over three weeks. So no allopurinol, no meropenem, no erythromycin, no trimethoprim and no cyclosporins for me. Woops, I had better not get ill again!!!
