Hi I have started the annual search for travel insurance and set a few days aside ! Last years company that insured me have ceased doing that policy so m trying to find a company that makes the DES idiom to cover me on information I give and not a computer programme .I am 13years post sct still working and well. Except for a few aches and pains .has anyone managed to get covered for an acceptable amount of money please.I have been quoted 200-350+
Thanks lin
Lin, I had trouble in getting travel insurance with a reasonable premium, I found a company that would insure my husband, (who has had a triple heart graft) and myself and they are MIA and contact details are MIA Online Ltd., PO Box 2109, Rayleigh, Essex SS6 9WH. Only able to take a policy out one month prior to travel, hope this helps. Val
Hiello Lin – It is almost two years since my husband had SCT, is OK, and since then we have used Vital Health a few times. From ringing around and online enquiries to numerous firms, they came up with the most reasonable rates.
Their address is: 308-314 London Road Hadleigh Essex SS7 2DD and telephone no:0844 826 2696. (Sorry, don't know what DES stands for!) They will only cover single trips, not annual. Hope this is of some use and good luck with the searching! Carole D
In case you missed it, Lin, I just noticed some posts towards the end of this thread
http://www.myeloma.org.uk/patient-services/discussion-board/general/catching-up/
which mention various insurance companies and members' experiences with getting the right insurance
Dear Lin,
I have travel insurance with First Direct as part of my bank account with them. My husband has MM and last year was just post SCT but on no other medication. I had to answer a few extra questions about his health but they had no qualms in allowing him cover on my policy. They were well informed questions and they understood the treatment pretty well. They were interested in what treatment he was having, when he was last in hospital and what for and if he had ever been told that he was suffering from a terminal illness. He was well and they were happy to cover him. I hope this helps,
Mari
Check the policie s you already have We used MIA the first time we went away after my husband's diagnosis and then discovered he was covered on our health policy

Yes. £180 for 3 weeks single trip worldwide (excl usa canada carribean) Excl personal effects (the contents of my suitcase are less than the excess)
The Myeloma and any effects arecovered. Able2travel 0845 839 9345
Could other posters on this subject please make clear if their insurance is covering their Myeloma snd any effects, infections, spinal problems or hospitalisation caused by it or are insuring them excluding the Myeloma. They don't always make it clear until you read the small print or specifically ask them on the phone.
That is a very good point Peter.
Thanks for these suggestions, folks! I'm going to try some of them, along with one that Wendy told me about, with whom she managed to get an annual policy including myeloma, but excluding USA and Caribbean for a very reasonable amount. I think it was under £100, but not sure. The company is World First and I think it was an online questionnaire that she thought asked appropriate questions and not like one she'd tried over the telephone who asked her if she'd been diagnosed as terminal. Not really a question you want to answer!
I just checked World First and got a quote for one week including USA/Caribbean. This is the response I got:
The total premium for your policy, including the accepted medical conditions, is: £102.28
We have shown below the status of the declared condition(s) for each traveller and how much extra to cover any accepted condition(s) is included in total premium. You can exclude the declared condition(s) by ticking the box alongside each traveller name and we will recalculate the total premium for your policy, which is shown above.
J. Black (aged 50) screened for:
Condition(s): Multiple myeloma, Anaemia, Impaired kidney function, Chronic renal failure
Status: Accepted
£56.51 to EXCLUDE cover for the declared conditions.
If we have declined to cover your pre-existing medical conditions, or if you choose to exclude them, it will mean any claims arising from the declared conditions(s) will not be covered by your policy.
I also checked for an annual policy for exactly the same conditions, which they declined.
Hope that's helpful for others.
I just went to the MIA site and can't get an online quote for Myeloma. You have to call them.
Bloomin Norah!
I just tried All Clear Travel and got a quote for £1499 for the same conditions for a week in USA!!!
I tried Medici and failed at the first hurdle… The date of birth field only covers people 18-49! LOL!

Hi Jet, I use a company called Citybond.co.uk. I do not say they are the cheapest but my wife works at an Insurance Broker and they seem to think they are good plus she gets a staff discount.
Kindest regards – vasbyte
