    Hello,

Not sure if any one can help we're taking my grandmother on holiday but are struggling to get insurance, we are going to the Dominican republic for 17nights. Along with myeloma granny also has atrial fibrillation and diabetes. Previously I have used insure4all and world first but on this occasion neither company are offering cover. If any one has any ideas I would be greatful.

    Thanks,

    Louise

    Hi Louise

We have used quite a few travel insurance companies in the past. We had to find a new one when Frank turned 65. The one we have used for our past holidays has been Columbus direct. 02082569045. We found them very helpful – but be prepared to answer lots of questions. We used them for a cruise in the Caribbean. Lots of people on the forum have used different companies so I'm sure you will get plenty to choose from. Hope you are successful.

    Hi Louise

We normally travel to the Caribbean every November but my husband was diagnosed with MM last year. We have decided that we are going to visit our son in Dubai and began the insurance srabble. I contacted 8 different companies for quotes etc and i also asked them if he would be able to get cover for the Caribbean another time, the answer from all of them was that they would give a general insurance cover but no cover for MM would be available, that included America and Canada too. We have got insurance with World First for Dubai, we had to answer endless questions about Peter's MM and his treatment, we also had to get a "Fit to travel" letter from his consultant.

    Good luck
    Love Trish xx

    Hi Louise,

I called several on the "cancer insurers" list I was given by the Maggie's Centre – I think it's on the Cancer UK website. They were all prepared to insure me, but most quotes were astronomical. In the end, though, I found Avanti, who were much cheaper than all the others (around £200, I think it was, for a trip to India – others were quoting me upwards of £1000!), and they're very nice and helpful.

I'm sure you're aware, though, that North America and the Caribbean are in the most expensive bracket – much more expensive than anywhere else. The premium will also of course vary according to the stage the disease is at, as well as age etc.

Personally, I'm determined to keep travelling and seeing the things and people I want to see, as much and as often as I am able, and I try to worry as little as (reasonably!) possible about having to pay more.

I hope you all have a lovely holiday.

We used World First for the planned trip to Oz in December.
They asked where we were up to in treatment, about antibiotics and hospital stays etc and the quote came in about £300 including cancellation cover, medical expenses and all the other stuff, and that was for both of us.
Might be worth giving them a ring to have a chat.
