    Hi John,

Try the Red Cross – they do help with living aids, click on the following:

    http://www.redcross.org.uk/What-we-do/Health-and-social-care/Independent-living

The other place to try is your local social services – they should be able to give advice and support.

The doctors really should be able to help with the side effects – there is medication to help with sickness etc so make sure June gets the benefit of these.

    Hope this helps,

    Jill

    Hi John,

When my husband Phil had his two leg operations last year to fix the MM bone damage he was assessed by the physiotherapists at the hospital before he left and they arranged for a raised toilet seat to be delivered to our house and fitted free of charge before he came home. You could check with the hospital June is in to see if there is anything they can provide.

Hi John and June when I was first told I had mm the district nurse came to show me how to do my own injections and then put me on their care list . When I got worse they sorted a commode, matteress, and other things to help me around the house…thankfully 12 months post sct I have sent some items back so get in touch with your family doctor as they will help.
Not sure what area you live I'm in Lancashire and my husband joined the the carers centre ,and they gave him plenty of useful help and information.
    Regards Etta

    Hey John and June

Sorry my reply is late, am sure you will cope with what ever happens it can and will be sorted, the runs I coped with (Just) made it nearly all the time, when I needed rest I slept where I was 😀 and as for Isolation (in a small enclosed room??) don't bother confining June to the basement just let everyone know who might or will visit if they aint well they aint welcome till they are 😎 (said in a nice way ha ha)

All the best and as a mere male myself I know how you feel

    Hi John

It just depends how June feels over the next few months when she continues with the cycles of drugs. She might feel tired and rest quite a bit. From the beginning of cycle three, I spent most days sitting around or in bed.

The district nurses supplied me with a soft cushion to sit on in bed which helped prevent any bed sores. I tried a metal back rest for my bed for when I sat up in bed, but soon changed to four soft pillows to stop my back from aching. My hubby purchased a picnic range plastic jug with lid which has been great beside the bed for a constant supply of water. We acquired quite a few of the sick bowls from hospital to cope with the vomiting. I also purchased some plastic bowls to take with me on journeys, just in case I was sick. I used my walking stick for support when moving around the house. I used a pill box for keeping track of my week's supply of drugs, otherwise I kept forgetting which drugs I had taken. I needed a fan in the bedroom because I felt so hard whilst taking the medication.

I didn't fancy any large meals for months, so my parents purchased a range of different types of food as back up for meal times such as soups, custard, jelly, ice cream, eggs, bread for toast, cheese (for some unknown reason I ate quite a bit of cheese or tuna on toast), squash and ice lollies when my mouth became sore.

Hope all goes well when June returns home.
