Hi everybody.
I was just going to cut and paste my original Whoops thread but thought that would be cheating and after all it is a Dex night so I’ve got plenty of time.
A week gone Friday went to the day unit for my usual blood test – 20 mins max in and out WRONG! I mentioned my back and said I was a bit warm out came the thermometer 38.1
The temp and my mentioning my back meant they wouldn’t let me go home! Don’t they know brewers depend on me at weekends?
We’ll just stick some needles in you and give you some antibiotics, at this point I was still thinking of some beer, and we’ve got you a nice cozy bed they tell me.
So that was the beginning of another 4 night stay at the hotel NHS
Whilst there I made use of the X-ray machine and the MRI scanner seemed only polite to do so.
X-Ray came back clear. MRI showed I had further damage at T1 and T12.
In between doctors poking and prodding I managed 2 units of blood and some gsf injections before they finally allowed me to walk sorry before I was discharged Tuesday evening.
So that’s twice I’ve been hospitalised whilst feeling ok! but my blood and temp were saying otherwise.
Anyway I’ve now started my 3rd Pomalidomide cycle lets hope I can avoid the hospital stay bit this time. The only side effect I’ve really noticed is I can now taste my beer better π oh and I’m a little more tired. I did think it was making my back ache but the MRI explained that. Not forgetting the temp spikes and the blood effects though I don’t really notice them just the remedies.
Well it’s March already and the gardens are all ready to spring their weeds upon us in between the flowers. The winter hasn’t been bad for us oop north for a change though that could change. We’re off to the lakes on the 18th of March ( hopefully ) same time as last year and we only just made it home through the snow storms and blocked roads last year!
Got Greece flights booked for May with luck we should see some sun and have a relaxing time if I can stay away from my cozy bed at hotel NHS.
Ok that’s enough from DEXed up me for now. Going to try to get some sleep before I give up and watch a film.
Every day is a gift

Hi Andy
38.1 a bit of back pain and they took you in!! Now that is service, not taking any chances with you,!gSF injections as well.all good Andy, then a couple of pints at the local, real ale plenty of iron in it!!!,and to top it up the lovely Dex,all good.
You have now passed muster for the next round!. I call that a good service Andy. No one likes going in,but staying on top of things before they develop gives you a better quality of life.
Recorded One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, have not seen it for years,so looking forward to watching it,with my cuppa and toast, might make me appreciate visits to the hospital with Slim. Love Eve
Dear Andy
Glad to hear you are out again and back on the beer. Keep up the good work.
I’m doing ok at work but I’m using up holiday just now and I think I might have to retire after the summer. I will be 60 in May so was trying to get to that milestone! And I like the salary as we have a wedding to pay for at the end of the year as my daughter has decided to get married. ( we haven’t had the budget setting meeting yet!)
I’m off to Madeira at the end of the month, having got insurance based on a near perfect set of blood results, best for 3 years apparently….. Even the light chain ratio is normal! So 6 months of Velcade has now worked for several months, worth the painful feet and hands. Let’s hope it continues!
I’d imagine we will be at the Newcastle info day in June. Hope Steph is keeping ok.
Love Helen
Hi Andy
Ian going on Velcade and sex on Velcade on Velcade24 March so we are going to the Lake District on 17 March for 2 days.we are staying in Grasmere. Are you near us?
Maureen

That’s great blood results and glad to hear you are getting away on holiday. Have a great time and be frugal as you have a wedding to pay for, lol x

Hi Helen
Great to see you on here and even greater to hear that Velcade has been worth it for you.
Budget setting for your daughters wedding hehe, good luck with that one!
Have a lovely trip to Madeira, my in laws went last year and really enjoyed it.
Love Ali x
Hi Vikki
Am saving very hard for ……holiday….. Hope its a cheap wedding! Think it will be a bit home spun… She’s a very creative type.
Have a good time in Mauritius …. Now there’s a place I haven’t been!!
And Ali I’m really glad to hear your mum is doing ok, and I love the pic of you and your very smart boys.
Dear Maureen I laughed out loud at your post …then I wondered if it was serious! What ever! Hope you have a good stay in the lakes.
And Jean I can’t find the post where you put that you are off to Lanzarote .. We went last year, we found it very pretty and quiet where we were, some nice restaurants by the sea where you can watch the sun go down and it was quite hot too, have a lovely time.
Love Helen
Hi all
Andy sorry to hear that you had another stay in Hotel NHS but just look and how they looked after you. Don’t worry about the brewers, Frank will keep your end up. Enjoy Greece. Great to get away
Maureen I too thought I was seeing things on your post but it gave me a laugh. Hope you have a fantastic time.
This is the third time I’ve tried to post and it keeps disappearing. Though it was all sorted
Vikki have you room in your case for a wee one. Have a great time
Ali glad to hear your mum is good. Hope she goes from strength to strength
Helen great news about your bloods and holiday. Madeira is beautiful. Enjoy. There are benefits having four boys – we sat back and relaxed. Franks bloods were good except for phosphates (can’t give him Zometa) and vitamin D still to low. She suggested getting it naturally so we left hospital and booked. Never been before so looking forward to it. I’m looking after our 1 year old grand son and he’s all over the place
Sorry Andy your post was hi jacked. But to all going away for a break have a brilliant time – cheers. If this doesn’t post this time I give up
Love Jean x

Looked at my post and am mortified. It should have read that Ian is going on Velcade for 6 cycles. Can’t remember what sex is lol.

Bit of an “oops” for us too this weekend. M takes his temperature every evening and records it in his TEAMM trial book. Yesterday evening it was 37.6. An hour later it was 37.7. Hospital instructions are to phone if it is over 37.5, so we did, and M was booked in for the night. Β They’ve given him intravenous antibiotics and antivirals and he’s in there tonight too, even though his temperature is now normal. He’s not a happy boy as the haematology/oncology ward is full and he’s on a general medical ward: no reclining chairs, Dyson fans or special menu there!
It’s reassuring that they don’t take any chances, but at the same time it’s a bit frustrating.
Maureen: lol!
Andy – try not to have an oops no. 3!
Sarah
Hi Folks.
Thought I’d do a post that wasn’t Dex fuelled π
I start my second week of my third cycle tomorrow Maureen so it’ll be sex oops I mean Dex first thing in the morning π Hmmm just realised I’ll be on Dex the first day at the lakes next week that’s going to be fun lol. We’re staying at Bowness Maureen not too far from Grasmere.
Helen – you’ve got a busy year ahead of you I hope every thing goes to plan. Find it hard to believe your 60 in May! Steph is ok – a bit tired after running about after all the time and the long journeys to work. She is trying to alter her working hours so hopefully that’ll give her more time to relax.
We just got back from a weekend in Nottingham, it’s the first time we’ve managed it this year, Steph got to see her dad and sister and we had a catch up with a couple of friends. Which meant visiting a couple of pubs π
Got my latest blood test results on Friday when I went in for my Zometa my specialist nurse was really excited about them my HB was well up and my neuts were 3.3 I was a bit sorry for her when I reminded her I’d had a couple of units of blood and some GCSF injections whilst I was in hospital. Oh well hopefully they’ll stay up.
Ok that’s me up to date I think. I may have Dex fueled rant tomorrow night lol till then you pirates can hijack my thread π
Every day is a gift
Grab them with both hands

Hi Andy
Did you notice it’s all women that turned out as pirates,I think it was Maureen and the sex bit???? Or some are not posting there own thread but when they come on to comment on some one else’s post,it’s so nice to here from them.
As Slims not much into a TV ,and his memory is not great on Chemo,so reading is out, except for papers,we have rediscovered jigsaws,so Dex nights become jigsaw nights.
Hope you have a good holiday in the lakes years since we have been there, off to take the fog down to the beach, gone from tea shirt weather,to hat and coats in the south East.Eve
Hi Eve, think you have the same finger trouble as Maureen, surely you meant ‘take the dog down to the beach’ Certain you can remember what the dog is as well.
Hi Dick
That’s a good one, cannot even blame the booze as it’s morning,!!!!
I use an I pad all the time now,and know it looks like a slip of the finger because F and D are next to each other, but I honestly believe it’s predictive rather then slip of the finger,I am so lazy I do not read it again unless it,s red lined for unknown word.
I bet Maureen uses a I Pad as well!!!
But if it makes people smile,it makes my day. Love Eve
