I got an antibody test, which showed a response, but at a very low level (2.8 U/mL, this after 2 jabs of AZ). My consultant’s response to the test results was to go through the reassuring arguments that say we don’t yet know exactly what this implies – T cells may be OK, etc. He did not give any advice about shielding. But my own conclusion is that I have to act as though I am largely unprotected. My hope was to press for priority on booster jab – but it seems that this cannot be done until the Government guidelines are updated.

Meanwhile, the prevalence of the infection is increasing, the delta variant is 2x as infectious as initial variant in 2020, so I think the risk for those without protection of effective vaccination is about as high as it has ever been. But if anyone is giving advice about shielding, it is lost in the general national euphoria about unlocking. I’m not against the general unlocking, but if things are as risky as I suspect for blood cancer sufferers, I think clear advice is required urgently.

Many thanks for your posts on your insurance claim problems. I hate filling in forms, they always seem designed to prevent you entering any real and relevant facts, drives me mad. So you have my sympathies. I would have thought that the cost of (non-refundable) airline tickets was exactly what the insurance should be covering for you.

I haven't checked the forum for some weeks, I apologise for that. I've been waiting to see my doctor at Kings, London, and haven't been motivated to progress travel issues prior to this. OK, saw them yesterday, bone marrow biopsy results look good, so I'm now ready to take an interest again. In spite of the struggle you are having, I'm probably going to sign up with World First. On the grounds that most insurance firms make claims difficult, so maybe World First are not unusually bad, other firms would be just as bad. And we are travelling to Galway next week, so I need to get something in place quickly.

ps, I should revise my profile picture; my hair has started to grow back a little.

    thanks and regards

Thanks Trish. Good luck with Peter's treatment.

Post something on the insurance if and when you can, it would be understandable if it's not the top priority for you right now.

There's a number of posts on which insurance is cheapest or easiest to buy.

But does anyone have experience of making a claim? I'm concerned that some of the cheaper quotes (less than £100) don't look realistic, and may not pay up willingly. So it would be good to know if people have had good or bad experiences when it comes to actually paying out.

There's more on this in the General forum, topic "Travel Insurance"
