The 16 – 20 year expectancy discussed here is new to me, I must say. Here's the article anyhow.
Typical myeloma patients once faced a life expectancy of 3-5 years, but that?s now expanded to 16-20 years, says Irene Ghobrial, M.D.,…[Read more]

I'm sure there are some highly informed people on here who understand what all those letters are on our blood tests. Would be great if someone could put together an explanatory document or posting.

I had this discussion with my specialist before xmas. Tom's right, low impact activity, walking, swimming (no diving) are good. Avoid high impact sports, skiing and also weights.
I've seen research that shows that people's physical activity drops off quite dramatically following MM. We know that exercise is important for health though and the…[Read more]

Megan thanks so much for your posts. I have SCT to look forward to (not really the right expression!) in April. I will be starting chemo at some point this month in the lead up to it.
I too have found the SCT journey posts like yours very helpful in understanding what I will be facing and wonder if it might be an idea for the Moderators of the…[Read more]

Hi Steve,
Sorry you had to join the club.
I'm 47 and will be starting PAD in January (bortezomib, doxorubicin and dexamethasone) for 2 cycles leading to an autologous stem cell transplant hopefully around April time.
I'm based in london and will be treated at UCH. I can only echo the comments above, learn as much about this crappy disease…[Read more]

Thanks Eva and Helen.
It's so useful to know that this is common.
I'm still feeling a bit rough today but I'm up and about. My old bones are aching a bit and I feel like I've got a bit of a hangover without the pleasure of having had the drink the night before.
I will go into work later and trawl for sympathy…

Dear Keith and Michele thanks for taking the time to answer. This afternoon I've actually begun to feel slightly better so hopefully I'll be up and about tomorrow.

My treatment in the lead up to PAD and SCT started yesterday with my first zometa infusion.
Woke up in the middle of the night aches and pains and flue symptoms.
I remember I think it being the other Tom who mentioned something similar with his first treatment.
Any ideas how long this will last?

I think it is yes, but it's also about the budgetary constraints your particular post code lottert dictates. I could be wrong on this and hope I am!

Thanks Keith it does seem to be the case that some people are put on Zometa pretty much long term and others aren't. Interesting.
