    Hi Ali

We are just coming to the end of the third month and don't get me wrong it is tough but as others say (I hope) it will be worth it. Frank takes the Chemo tablets every Monday. He was told to take the in the morning but they made him feel anxious and 'funny' for about 18 hours. So on Monday week ago he decided to take them late on…[Read more]

    Hi Ali

Sorry you have had to join us but this is the best place for support, to rant and for friendship. My husband is just starting his 4th cycle of CDT and the withdrawal of the Dex is by far the worse. His consultant tried to wean him off it, but for Frank, it just prolonged the withdrawal, so back to cold turkey. His first month was the…[Read more]

It's a relief to hear that you don't need insurance to come to Newcastle, 😀 I know it's a wild place…..the Marriots a bit posh mind and far enough from the quayside

  • Hi Pete

Thanks for your post. I appreciate everything that you have said about Support Groups and I am looking forward to going in October. I suppose, as Frank was not on treatment, I was like the ostrich – head buried in the sand – but if I'm honest I was scared to go to a group, as I did not want to hear or see what the future held. I'm…[Read more]

  • I agree Michele. My husband had SMM for 6 years and has just started treatment. I never felt inclined to go to a support group and Frank would not even talk about it, but now that treatment has started I feel the need to go. I will be going to my first one in Belfast in October.

As you say cope with Mm in your own way

    Hi Louise

We have used quite a few travel insurance companies in the past. We had to find a new one when Frank turned 65. The one we have used for our past holidays has been Columbus direct. 02082569045. We found them very helpful – but be prepared to answer lots of questions. We used them for a cruise in the Caribbean. Lots of people on the…[Read more]

  • Thanks for posting this John. As you say looks hopeful. Be interesting to read more on it.

    Hi Ali
No real celebrations, big bunch of flowers and family lunch today, very nice:-)
I had terrible trouble with my gut from end to end after transplant, only settled really slowly, still not 100% but close now. I was on metoclopramide, gaviscon and lansoprazole for about 2 months afterwards and only ate bland stuff for weeks. In the old days…[Read more]

    Dear Keith
It's a rough ride you are having with this, I don't know how I'd feel about it. 🙁 but there is evidence that this works quite well in slowing the disease down. Hopefully, after month 5's reduction in the dex you will stop the diabetes complications and pick up a bit, I do hope so. Hang on in there.

  • Hi Angela
Welcome, I've had a stem cell transplant so can tell you about that from my point of view, and there is much about them on the site which will give you a good idea about what to expect. I've not had a hip replacement but have looked after people with them and this is a specialist orthopaedic subject when it comes to myeloma.
    Which do…[Read more]

Another close contemporary then, I didn't do anything special for my anniversary but got a large bunch of flowers which was nice. Had a sip of wine again, but it still tastes terrible, I tried! 🙁

  • Hi Jo
No idea about this subject really but the cost is dependant on what drug is used and how much you have, for example,
Aranesp is about £15 per 10mcg, up to £735 per 500mcg injection. I'm not familiar with these drugs but can look them up in the magic book at work if it's of interest. Good luck with it, if it works it has to be better t…[Read more]

    Hi Keith
sorry you are feeling so unwell, When I was first diagnosed i was already a type 11 diabetic but very well controlled only two small tablets a day as soon as dex kicked in it was insulin for me as it shot the sugars though the roof coming of of dex and a sugar high feels like the worst thing going but the insulin did help control it a…[Read more]
