    Hi Everybody

I am posting this with a sense of numbness ,after all this time it seems so unreal.

Slim died on Wednesday the 27 of August ,there is not much more I can say, thank you to all the people on here and at Myeloma UK who have helped me over a period of three years,I have laughed and cried at many postings but most of all I knew you all…[Read more]

  • Hello Martin

With the amount of damage to your back,I would expect you to have been in sever pain and needing medication for it!!!

The consultants must have done a Skelton ex ray plus MRI,scan which show the damage,if it’s pain from that area ,there should be some relief as chemo does the job of removing cells, but if it’s the bones crumbling as…[Read more]

    Hi Angeline

I have to ask how long is a piece of string!!!instead of thinking how long will it last, think how long you are going to have your Dad.

People choose there own time and own way to die, embrace it and do all you can,it might sound a bit old fashioned ,these days we hide it away,in hospitals homes or hospice,I am not knocking it,it…[Read more]

  • Hi John

You do not give much info on your dad age treatment and so forth!!!!!
So it’s a bit hard to reply????

I can say when you have Myeloma you just want to get on with treatment, people react different to treatment even to the point of treatment being changed!!

Your dad asking for a month off means he is having problems find out what the…[Read more]

    Hi Anthony

So sorry to hear your news about your myeloma returning after such a short period of time. In your post, you ask about details of clinical trials. If you look on this site under the heading of clinical trials, you can find full details about various trials available for relapsed patients across the UK.

    Very best wishes.

  • Hi John

Sorry to hear you dad is finding the treatment difficult. Some people are lucky to sail through chemotherapy without many side effects, but others can suffer various side effects such as weight loss, fatigue, infections, nausea, muscle weakness, loss of taste, hair loss, etc. Like your dad, I also have a curved spine due to three…[Read more]

  • Hi David and Andy
Sorry to hear about your father-in-law Andy, very sad for you both.
No news to report, off all drugs, light chains 175, slightly neutropaenic so can’t find travel insurance that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg! Bit miffed about this as am going to Marbella film festival in October ( daughter has film in!) so will have to keep…[Read more]

  • Hi
I too am having a month off treatment, mainly as none have worked for very long for me, so I’m having a break, more bloods then see what happens. If your dad is finding it very hard going then perhaps it is best for him

  • Hi Maureen
I had Revlimid in 2011, right at the beginning with dex and cyclophos, it worked well and got me to zero in 4 months. Then I had SCT, relapsed after 14 months on 40 mg Revlimid maintenance daily. – treated with Velcade, Dex and cyclophos which also, took me down to zero again. 2nd relapse after 6 months took me to May this year, I’ve…[Read more]

    Dear Helen

    What’s ironing lol!!!

  • Hi Maureen
Thanks, hope Ian does well on the Revlimid. I had it as first line treatment and was on it as maintenance after SCT. My next one will be Pomalidomide. High dose Steroids are just awful, I’m dreadful on them …I’m probably best left on my own I’m so snarly!

    Dear Eve
I think I’m going to move in next door to you! Clearly what I need is a wife! No one ever cooks me salmon and scrambled egg…your dog is better looked after than most, no wonder Slim is still battling on….come to think of it – I do all the cooking in our house. But I don’t do the ironing!

  • Dear David
I don’t know what to say…! 3 types of cancer! Are you going for a record? My dad is ex RAF and he got sun related skin cancers on his head from being stationed in the Middle East … He’s had a few removed and though unsightly they don’t seem to have progressed for about 10 years now. Are you going to have to have yours operated…[Read more]

    Ha Tom
Good to see you …I had cyclophos with Velcade and steroids last year… Totally exhausting, I managed 3 months on it before having to give work up for the rest of the course, been back since January but now gone off sick again…. I think my body is trying to tell me something…

    Hi Eve
I love that you are so relaxed about it all, I suspect Slim is hanging in there because he is so loved and cherished. The dog is doing ok too then? Wasn’t it ill too?
It’s good the family are continuing to do normal stuff.

    Thank you,for all your thoughts.

I very seldom leave Slim now,he has to be good before I think of going even to get a paper, today the district nurse came to change his driver and 2 carers came so I popped out with the dog,he knows he has to do a super fast pooh. Lol.

  • Hi Andy
Sorry this is such a belated reply, no excuse really! Except the steroids! I’ve now had 3 months of high dose steroids…..each month takes longer to recover. I go to find out next week what happens next…. Light chains still rising and I’m very tired. MRI shows no change since last one and back pain is under control but as you say the…[Read more]

    Dear Eve
You really are a remarkable woman, I suspect Slim is very happy that he chose you to spend his life with. I hope he managed his bacon sandwich this morning. Are you getting out with the dog still?
I think about you a lot.
