Hi Laura sorry you and your mum are having to go through this but joining this forum was the right thing to do , there are lots of lovely people who can support and advise you There are quite a few of us who were diagnosed around the same age as your mum and a growing number of people under 50 as well It does take time to get over the shock when you are first diagnosed and it can be hard to see how your life will be , so feeling down is fairly normal The more your mum finds out the better she will feel , if she felt able to come on here it might help Life does change when you find out you have myeloma but not as much as you first fear Having the stem cell transplant could give your mum several years where she wont need any treatment at all. Are you able to talk to your mums specialist nurse? It may be that a course of anti- depressants might help and the specialist nurses are great and very approachable . Do you have anybody else to help you and your mum? It must be very hard for you too Please keep posting and let us know how you are both doing , you will get lots of replies Best wishes Bridget

Dear Gaye I really feel for you , there is nothing worse. At the moment I take Severodol for breakthrough pain , although morphine based it doesnt knock you out . I also use the heated pads which do help. Hopefully your rt will happen quickly once they have seen your mri results love Bridget x

Hi Sarah thenkyou for your good wishes The pain isnt like the rest of my bone pain its like a really awful toothache in my back ( if that makes any sense!) so I am now taking quite a lot more severadol as well as the mst morphine They told me today not to expect any major relief for several weeks so I will just have to be patient The rt was fine apart from being half naked in a very chilly room , apparently the machines have to be kept cool , never knew you could get so many goosebumps , still thats only a minor discomfort and well worth it as long as it works love Bridget x

Dear Jenny I can only imagine what you must be feeling. I think if we were being honest most of us have considered refusing treatment when its particularly tough but I do hope he thinks it over and changes his mind. My thoughts are with you and we are all here to support you through this awful time love Bridget x

Haha Srah you have just brought back some memories for me !! I used to work in a factory years ago with a lady whose dad made home-made wine from the veg on his allotment To be honest some of it was awful , potato and carrot peelings yuk!! Pocheen was a good one though and there were a few nights no work got done because we were a little tipsy to say the least!! I look forward to my unvite to the shed opening love Bridget x

Dear Gaye not a good start to your day , those blooming dex cause mayhem whenever they can !!I was so shocked to read that people could write nasty letters about a hospice!! They must live such selfish lives only thinking about their property As you said I hope they never have need of such a service I am sure your response will make at least some of them think about their priorities!! On another subject have you ever tried those heatpads for your back pain ? I used them before I was diagnosed a few years ago and they did help a bit love Bridget x
