  • Hi Graham, I’ve just had a look on my print outs and the last eGFR was 71 so I guess it’s still pretty ok. Kath x

  • Thank you Graham, I’ll have a look for that figure, it’s not one I recognise. I know they do creatinine etc but there’s lots of separate figures for that.

  • Hi, since the beginning of January I have had a kidney infection. I’ve had about 8 courses of various antibiotics, several cultures for specificity and antibiotics changed accordingly.

I’m currently diagnosed as MGUS but prof cook requested a repeat round of bloods at the start of the infection and they showed a rise in m spike and sflc ratio…[Read more]

  • Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help either to help me understand things or help stop me from worrying?

I’m 44 years of age, female and have 3 children.

I was diagnosed with MGUS about 7 weeks ago, my m spike was 9g/l and everything else in the bloods was normal. BMB showed less than 1% plasma cells with 77% of those with neoplastic…[Read more]

  • Thanks Ian. It’s the waiting game that’s hard, the waiting to see if it goes up again and the limbo land of will it or won’t it. I’m happy it’s MGUS and nothing more but there’s just always that possibility of it progressing. I just need to get my head round it which was going ok until this jump in the levels. Now I’m waiting to see what prof cook…[Read more]

  • Hi all, I haven’t been on here for a while as I’ve tried to keep busy and positive. I had a diagnosis of MGUS in January following BMB which showed .77 % plasma cells of which 79% have neoplasia markers and skeletal survey showed no convincing lyric lesions. Then out of the blue I got the mother of s kidney infections and my gp suggested I phoned…[Read more]

  • Hi all,

I had my first bmb today, the procedure went well, I had local and felt only a little discomfort. A few minutes after the plaster was on I felt very faint. They took my bp and it was 63 over 52. They made me drink lots and said they would need to give me iv fluids if it didn’t come up. It took about 3 hours to come up but I didn’t need…[Read more]

  • Six weeks ago I saw my GI consultant and she said she wanted a blood test repeating. I asked what it was, she said I have a raised IgA paraprotein and she wanted to see if it was still raised. Naturally I googled it. When those blood results came back the IgA was still raised at 12g/L and she requested a haematology referral. I asked for a print…[Read more]

Thank you for your reply Mavis,

I’ve not had any x-rays or anything else other than bloods done so far. My bloods showed that I’m slightly anaemic, my white cells are low and my neutrophils are low. There’s no evidence of kidney damage but I do get a lot of kidney infections amongst other infections. I’ve just had 14 days of antibiotics for a…[Read more]

I’ve now had a referral to haematology. I’ve found out that my IgA paraprotein is 12g/L and I believe anything over 10 is for referral. I’m hoping to get the letter with all my results on tomorrow.

What questions should I be asking the haematologist?

    Thanks

    Hi,

After a bit of a battle I have finally managed to get some of my blood results but I don’t know what they mean and now I have an agonising wait until my gastro consultant gets back off her holiday as it was her that ordered the blood tests and my gp doesn’t know what my results mean!!

All I know is that the IgA is still raised with a…[Read more]

  • Hi again,

I’ve finally got a little bit more information about my blood test results. My iga is unchanged (from what I don’t know and it doesn’t show on screen what level it’s at apparently!), my igg is unchanged (but is apparently low) and my igm has increased by 8%. Does all this mean anything without the actual levels?

  • Hi,

I’m still getting no answers. I still haven’t had the results of the last blood test to check the iga paraprotein level. I phoned the doc today and she said he isn’t in today but will get him to chase the results tomorrow and phone me. Meanwhile I’m on my 2nd course of antibiotics for my chest and still no improvement. My full blood count…[Read more]

  • Thank you for your replies Jan and Eve. I’m still trying to get hold of my results, it’s been a bit of a battle trying to get the iga results out of them. I had the bloods done on Tuesday and by Thursday I was so poorly with chest they admitted me, the hospital sent me home to continue with antibiotics after taking a chest xray and confirming that…[Read more]

  • Thank you  for your replies. I saw the doc last week and they didn’t have the iga levels on their system and they’re trying to get them. I also phoned my gastro consultants secretary as it was the gastro consultants tests that found the raised iga and I’m still waiting to here from her too. Meanwhile I’m struck with another hideous chest…[Read more]

  • Hi everyone, I wonder if you might be able to give me your knowledgeable opinions? I saw my gastro intestinal consultant on Friday whom I have been under for just over 6 months. I last saw her 3 months ago and she noticed the results of a blood test I had done as an in patient when I had had a series of recurrent infections (pneumonia and…[Read more]
