Ian's light chains have not dropped very much so the doctor is increasing the dosage of steroids to 40mg and theledamoid to 100gms. He had bad side effects when he had this dose before but he also had a bad ionfection. Hopefully he will be ok this time.

What is the usual dosage and what are the side effects we should expect?

    He has been…[Read more]

    Hi Tom

Thanks for your reply. Ian was well today so I think it is when he is coming down off the steroids his mood changes. We have just been told that he will be moving to Falkirk Royal tomorrow for intense physio and rehabilitation. It is one step[ nearer him coming home.

I bought Ian a tablet so perhaps he will go on the myeloma site…[Read more]

    Hi Eve

Ian is ok now, and we have just been told he is being transferred to Falkirk tomorrow for intense physio and rehabilitation. It's great news as it's one step nearer to having him home. Ian is a little anxious as he doesn't like change and likes to be in control, but I'm sure it will be ok.

Ian sent me a valetine through moonpig…[Read more]

    Hi Helen

    Thanks for your advice.

Ian is in hospital and I mentioned to the nurse about his confusion when I was visiting. I have now phoned and asked if it could be a subclinical infection but they have taken blood samples which are fine. They are now testing his urine.

Ian is on day 16 of CTD and is becoming confused and tired. I hope it doesn't get like before as he had an infection and was like a raving lunatic one moment and then a zombie the next.

Fingers corssed that he will be ok.

    Hi Helen

I mad an appointment with my gp today to discuss councelling as I think it will help me. Ian had councelling when he was not in the land of the living so I have requested that he has it again.

We are talking more now (switiching off the tv) and we are both very emotional. Ian's fear is that he will not walk again while mine's is…[Read more]

    Hello Dai

Ian has been depressed this week and a little tearful which is hard for me to watch. I am finding it hard coping. How do you cope? I went back to work part time but I don't know if I did the right thing. Work isn't stressful but I find it difficult not to be emotional. I find I am anxious, heartbroken to see Ian cannot get out of…[Read more]

    Hi Dai

It has been a hard week for us both. Ian has been depressed and has been a little tearful. He thinks he won't walk again. I have been feeling anxious, sad and lonely andd have gone back on my tablets. How do you cope? I went back to work part time but my heart isn't in it anymore. I will persevere a few weeks and see what happens…[Read more]

  • Hi Gill

I can sympathise with you. I also had the worst Christmas ever. My husband Ian was told on Christmas Eve that he would need another operation (3rd since 29 October)to take out the pin in his spine as the wound was not healing quickly enough. I started crying on the morning of Christmas Eve and didn't stop until Christmas was over.…[Read more]

    Hi Dai

Thanks for your reply. Ian had only one cycle of CTD as he had the infection in his spinal wound and had to stop the chemo in order that the wound might heal. He did have a good response but was totally ga ga. Hopefully it was the infection and he will be ok on CTD this timeas as his anxiety has gone and we have now come to terms with…[Read more]

Ian's wound is no infection free and he is getting much better. He has been chosen to start intense physio and the doctor has said he should be walking and home by Easter. He is restarting CTD on Monday with a reduced dose of steroids. He did have severe side effects while on CTD but doctors are not sure if it was a combination of the infection…[Read more]

    Hi Jo

Thanks for your reply. Ian is a little anxious starting chemo again as he had severe side effects from CDT. Does he have to have strong doses of steroids?

He isn't walking yet so he will be in hospital but we are hopefull he will get some mobility when he receives physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

    Hope you are keeping well.

  • Hiya there..

I am really sorry to hear of your diagnosis but please don't lose faith. My name is Kerry, it's my partner Melv that has Myeloma. He is 39 years old.

Myeloma seems so complicated doesn't it? So hard to get your head around but there is so many treatment options as I'm sure that you have found today.

    How did your appointment…[Read more]

Venessa can contact me if she wishes. I too am struggling to come to terms with Ian's MM. The doctor has prescribed diazapan for me and I take it when I need it. It makes me feel calmer but I also believe that god will look after us. What age is Elsie?
