Pleased to report that Christine continues to progress well. She last saw the haematologist 10 days ago, and he has since written to her to tell her that ceasing the zometa infusions has resulted in a noticeable improvement in her kidney function. Her blood tests continue to show a level of paraprotein which is too low to be measured, and she has ceased any kind of treatment. All that will now happen is that the doctor will see her approx every 2 months instead of monthly and we keep our fingers crossed that her remission continues as long as possible.

Thank you Tom, Mari and Helen for your replies.

    Best wishes

Sorry to go off at a bit of a tangent but I am fairly new to the site and will be probably be asking some pretty naiive questions over the coming weeks.

Can someone tell me what Dexatude is? I have searched this site and googled it but can find nothing. Christine is on Dexamethasone – is this the same thing? She suffers from anxiety, shaking and breathlessness and I'm wondering whether this may be caused by the Dexamethasone.

Many thanks for your helpful responses. As you say, Ron, it is worrying if you give in to the temptation to trawl the net, and that was precisely what I had been doing before I discovered this site! Physically, Christine is standing up to the CDT treatment without too many bad side-effects, the main problems being constipation, extreme anxiety and constant shaking. I am hoping she gets some encouraging feedback when we see the haematologist on Tuesday, but I fear that her enxiety stems directly from the actual chemo treatment rather than from a rational assessment of her situation.

Interesting, Ron, and encouraging that your wife is a keen golfer and that she is normally well enough to play to a decent standard. I haven't set foot on the golf course for 3 months now and I fear I'm beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!

    Regards to all

    Hi Michelle

My wife was diagnosed with mm only a month ago. At first it was thought that the pain in her back and sides was due to crushed vertebrae and cracked ribs (that is what the X-ray showed) and it was only after having a CT scan and blood test that the mm showed up. She had a pamidronate drip to strengthen her bones even before the mm diagnosis was confirmed, and has had one more since. Absolutely no side effects and the procedure is just as described – a couple of hours sitting in a nice comfortable chair with a tube attached to your arm. Let's hope it achieves the desired result!.

    Best wishes
