I think that Myeloma is still quite an unusual cancer (trust my husband to get something unusual) but when we first saw the head of haematology at King's College Hospital he said that mm was considered to be "quite a sexy subject for research at the moment"

I take it that means there is a great deal of research being done so maybe it will come…[Read more]

Hi Keith Stephen (husband mm person) is on Velcade at the moment. He is hoping to go for a second SCT later this year. He get's very, very tired on the Velcade and of course the Dex that goes with it is not a pleasent experience.

Stephen's taste has certainly suffered and the only thing he can get some idea of flavour with is spicy food, curry…[Read more]

Thank you so much Jean for reminding me of this great, funny trio (fascinating Aida) I don't think they are together now, but are doing a reunion soon. Their cheap flights song has to be one that makes everybody laugh.

C'mon Ryanair answer that one:-) Gill xx

  • Hi Ozzy

1 month before you see your consultant must seem ages away but may seem nearer if you have some targets. Can you phone your consultant and ask when you can start back at work and introducing some "naughty" foods into your diet? I remember my (mm) husband getting quite excited when I first allowed hin to come to Tescos with me after his…[Read more]

    What a Bummer!!!

I am so sorry to hear your news. I think it must be worse when you feel well. Stephen got about 18 months and felt brilliant when back ache started and he got told OOPs it's back. I am not sure about the exact time as I was the headless chicken that managed to hide my headlessness from everybody but collapsed into myself. Janet…[Read more]

I am not sure if Stephen heard his chemo nurse correctly (I shouldn't let him out on his own:-| )

He remembered to ask about platelets and pp levels and was told that his platelets were up from 40 to 70 and should be 140 and his pp level was 70 which sounds high. He also got told that his bp was fine. mm or not that man is always so laid back…[Read more]

  • Hi Sandra

My husband was diagnosed in 2008 He has had one auto SCT and is now needing a second. Fortunately when he was harvested he managed to produce enough stem cells for 2 autos.

One of the first questions he was asked when first diagnosed was how many siblings he had. Answer none. We had no idea at the time why the question was asked…[Read more]

  • Hi Amanda

I think it is great that your mum does not need treatment yet. My husband was diagnosed in 2008 and was treated straight away because his mm was so virulent (sp?).

He is still here. He is 55 and is hoping that he gets "another year" 5 to 7 years would be wonderful for us

For every day we get I am grateful to some god or other…[Read more]

  • Hi Kath,

Yes, both Gaye and my husband Patrick are currently using Pomalidomide. Patrick too was allowed it under special circumstances and has recently finished his first cycle. • Thanks for the tip about the health insurance Jean. We are hoping we will still be covered by our exisiting long term insurance policy. It was annoying to pay for MIA and then find we were already covered. Talk about over egging the pudding. Never mind it did mean peace of mind.

We tend to go to France for about 3-4 weeks at a time. We go to the Creuse (a very long journey) and feel that it is not practical to go while Stephen is on Velcade. I realise that it is probably different for you as you live in France I believe.

  • Hi all

I noticed a posting asking about holiday health insurance. We have gone to France for years now and tend to go 3-4 times a year.

When Stephen first got ill we went with MIA (you can find a link on this site)We then discovered that we already had a general policy that covered us even with mm. I think you have to be free from treatment…[Read more]

My husband has mm and was diagnosed in 2008 aged 53. He had an SCT in the summer of 2009 after chemo had got his mm down to "hardly showing" He relapsed after 18 months and is going for a second SCT later this year. After seeing his consultant today we are aware that he will probably not get as long in remission as last time but he has…[Read more]
