I received an email, purportedly from Andy of Admin asking me to report any spam mail etc as a hacker has caused many emails and postings to be lost. If it is Andy then please let us know what's going on through this forum please.- the sender asks me to reply to a hotmail account???
Anyone else had this email?
Dai.
I have not received any such email. That sounds wrong you are right to be very wary Dai
kindest Regards
david
This is the email I received from admin at M UK. including the message from my mail blocker.

I have had to restore the website from backups twice and I know we have
lost a few posts from some real people along the way. I need your help to
keep these attackers off of our website. email me at ********@hotmail.com
if you start seeing spammers or people abusing. We have been getting
thousands of registration attempts. I have made it harder to register but
it seems that someone is custom programming their attacks and If I dont get
your help to keep up with it I will be forced to shut down the website…
I cant do this on my own with 500 members.
Thanks,
Andy
P.s. if you want to be an active moderator, please email me.

Hi Dai
I think i agree that is defo a scam mail, be careful!! I would ring Myeloma UK I think and ask them? Please don't answer that email, sounds very dodgy to me, as far as I am aware no one in myeloma uses hotmail, they all have their own email thro myelomauk.
Please let us know what you find out
with love michelle x x
I agree Michelle, that's why I have posted it here… so that anyone who receives anything similar can avoid it until proven safe… although I imagine it is bogus.
Bogus emails are bad at anytime… but targeting a forum such as this?
Dai.
Hi Dai
Yep dont i know that, at the mo my eldest going thro something similar from his own email!! which we are trying to prove that he did not send, its driving me nuts! how do people do that?? and why?? My son is really depressed over the whole thing and he is only 17 and he has been suspended from college cos of it! I am so upset and cant stop crying and neither can he.
with much love michelle x x
P.s I have just sent you a private message x
Hi Dai,
I got the same e mail, and at the same time I got an e mail from Gill, with no content, signed webteam that I had sent her a few weeks ago! something is going on. Though the similar e mail refers to the myelomaforums.com which I may have registered at a long time ago. the Gill one refered to this site.
Time to do a virus check me thinks. Then again I was onsite today while at work and it was 'down' with a notice saying something like site maintenance taking place. hmm wonder what that was all about.
Min
Hi Dai & Min,
I got the same email too, and like you Min I thought it was probably from a site that I joined ages ago. I have ignored it but will now do a virus check too.
Sorry Michelle that you and your son are going through a rough time, I hope it gets sorted very soon.
Take care all, love n hugs Lorraine X
Hi I got one too and also assumed it was a site I joined ages ago .I havent responded nor will I Blooming nuisance why cant these people get a life!! Michelle I do hope your sons problem gets sorted very soon it must be so stressful for all of you love Bridget x
Hello Dai, I got one too. It certainly seemed to be an odd format and I think you are right to bring it to our attention. Certainly, there are some sad people out there and I should be very surprised if this site did not get their attention. I have always worried about this problem because of the very easy going nature of everyone here. Perhaps someone from H.O. could make a comment please? Ron.
Hi All
I gpt this email but I have been stupid – I replied to it, asking Andy what it was all about. Does anyone know or have an idea what happens -or is there anything I should do seeing that I answered. I am in the process of running a scan

Jean
Hi Jean, I nearly answered it. It may still be genuine. As far as I know, the worst that can happen is that whoever sent it now knows you are active at that e-mail address and you may get other apparently unrelated nasties so just be careful and don't open anything from an unknown source. I don't think you should lose sleep. In 10 years of internet use, most without any protection, I have only picked up one piece of adware and that was when I got some free antivirus. In the succeding 3 years The antivirus has not picked up a single item of possible harm.
Hi Ron
i really appreciate your quick reply. I was imagining all sorts of things – hacking into my bank account etc.
My mind is easy thanks again.
Regards Jean
Hi guys,
I got this too. I don't believe it's a bogus email, but it is one from the Myeloma forums site….i seem to have totally deleted the email off my system (as I don't use the site anyway now), but I know that Andy once wrote on this site trying to encourage people to take a look at his too.
I don't think anyone needs to worry about it….I think he's just someone who has been affected by myeloma, set up a website that he runs as best he can as a non-it professional, and is now having difficulties with horrid people hacking into it. Why hackers don't have better things to do with their time than cause issues on websites that are trying to help me, is beyond me.
Anyway, Jean, Dai and co, I don't think you need to worry about this one.
