My wife Christine has been newly diagnosed with myeloma and as yet we are uncertain of what symptoms are relevant and how urgent they are. Apart from nausea and anxiety, which I mentioned in my previous post, she suffers from breathlessness following the slightest exertion. We are to see the haematologist on Tuesday (4th) so we will discuss it with him then, but in the meantime we are concerned that it could be a significant problem that needs urgent attention. Is anyone aware of this?

    Hi Ron,
Sorry to hear that your wife has been diagnosed with MM….it is a hard diagnosis for everyone who goes through it. Breathlessness can be a sign of low hb levels….which in turn can be a sign of the myeloma progressing. BUT, don't panic because quite often, the two aren't linked. I got breathless just after I'd had a dip in hb levels….strange and no-one knows why but it happened.
I'm breathless again now, but that is probably linked to the chemo I'm on (CRD)…have to keep an eye on for DVT but that shouldn't be an issue for your wife if she isn't on any treatment yet. Definitely mention it to the haemotologist, but I wouldn't panic too much about it and I'm sure they'll pick up on it on Tuesday.
I hope that everything goes well on Tuesday and that you get some positive news.

The breathlessness may just be part of the anxiety. I tried to give up smoking ( am now a non smoker) and in doing so used an alternative to nicotine which gave me palpitations and made me breathless) The anxiety of being breathless made me more anxious and more breathless. As the fear got worse I gave up smoking without any further help!!!!!!!!! The breathlessness stayed with me for a while until my fears were allayed by an ECG. Anxiety is a strange bedfellow. But I would make sure you mention it to the Dr when you attend for her appointment.
