Hi Everyone if you thought I had been a bit quiet it was because I have been off the airwaves , a bit of peace I hear you say !! Anyway I was in clinic Thursday and my doctor took one look at me and had me admitted , my chest infection was raging and I had a lot of trouble brathing Mind you I didnt give gracefully there was a lot of begging to be let home , but really he was right as within a few days of IV anti-biotics I feel so much better .Before all this my doctor gave me the bad news that Velcade hadnt worked at all and the latest mri showed further disease progression , the tumour is now double the size .I dont think I have really taken this in yet , I have put it on hold for a bit .The plan is to stop treatment for now and have radiotherapy for the tumour , which will be great if this pain can go as its getting unbearable This may or may not be followed by surgery depending on the surgeon reviewing my ct scan After this its Revlimid which I hoped not to get for some time Well thats all my news it will take me few days to read the posts and catch up on everyone else love Bridget x

Welcome back Bridget. The silence has been deafening:-)

I am sorry that you have been poorly and that you have had bad news what a heartbreaking bummer. Stephen is in the middle of further RT for his spine and his pain has eased a little after his first zap so we are hoping the other 3 Zaps will help even more I do hope the same for you

    Love from Gill xxx

    hello Bridget
    hope the rad goes well
i have been on revlomid from diagnosis last july as a trial CLD with no side effects to date apart from a red nose/face for the first few days and at this time of the year guess what i am called by Jackie my wife,
last week i was advised by my consultant that he thinks i will be offered my first SCT in a couple of months time, does anybody have any ideas re:Pro's & Con's, serious side effects, etc; and how long on average might the whole proceedure take as we were thinking of booking a long weekend UK Ballroom dance with Anton & Erin or a 10 day cruise both during June/July this year.

Dear Bridget – thank you for letting us know your news as I was getting concerned that Brocho was strangely silent for the last few days. I am so sorry about the infection but shattered for you regarding the Velcade. As you say you need some time to take it all in and by not having any treatment right now will hopefully give you some space to enjoy Christmas.

The chronic pain isn't exactly helping but I hope you know that all of us on this discussion board care (dare I say love!) and respect you very much. You are always an inspiration with the cheeky sense of humour and caring replies – now it is our turn to give some of it back.

As we both know, you will bounce back but you have to deal with this first. I hope you will have your children and grandchildren around over the holiday.

    Love, Gaye xx

    Hi Bridget
I'm so sorry to hear this news but pleased that the chest infection is under control at least. As you tell so many others, this is such an individual disease and although Velcade was not the wonder drug for you maybe Revlimid will be THE one to get you into remission ~ I am sure everyone on this site hopes that will be the case. You give so much to everyone on here and I agree with Gaye's comments that we do all care so much about you and send all the best wishes in the world for your return to pain-free good health.
I hope you have a lovely Christmas with your family and wish you all the best for 2011.
    Love Nettie xx

    Bridget,
I am so sorry I caught your post as I was about to leave the office and meet peter at the hospital for his clinic appointment.
I was worried about what we were going to hear, but your post was in my mind whist there, I was discussing Revlamid with his nurse specialist and she was saying that it was a much better than velcade, it is taken by mouth has fewer side effects and you stay on it after it has done its good work as maintenance, so I pray you will respond well to it. I think she said it was made by Thalidomide.
Hopefully the RT will zap the tumour in its tracks. It will certainly get the pain under control but not immediately, I hope they reviewed your pain control in hospital. You don't say but I presume you are back home now for Christmas. Bad news is always a b**** to deal with. Was it you who did a clinical trial?
We had some good and bad news at clinic today. Peter has now got Thrombosis and will be on heparin or warfarin now always. Some of the clots in his legs had broken off and gone to his lungs….too many of them to count, hence the reason for his breathlessness . He finishes the 3rd cycle of velcade on Friday and his response has been to half the light chains he started with. We are happy with that.
    Take Care Bridget

Oh Bridget what a bummer but Revlamid seems to be a great drug that the majority of people have a response to and in my experience radiotherapy does sort the pain out relatively quickly. You are probably feeling much better now you've had a few days of IV antibiotics and a good rest with people looking after you and taking it easy in hospital. Fingers crossed about funding for Revlamid but this doesn't appear to be the same the problem now as is even a year ago. Hope you stay well and take care over Christmas and get radiotherapy really soon. Best wishes Pamela xx

Dear Bridget – I tried to write about 2 hours ago and my posting was refused due to unacceptable language or something or other. I tried like mad to see what the offending piece was and could not, no swearing, nuffink! The only thing that must have offended the machinery could be to keep the old pec**r up. We'll see if it takes this abbreviation!

Anyway I am glad you sound a bit more like our Bridget and also that the Chrissie Tree is up. Now you just enjoy the time with family and let all the onward treatment take its turn.

Yes, thankfully the snow is going here but nothing that a good freeze overnight couldn't change!

Take care Bridget, Love, Gaye x
