    Hi Everyone,

I've just found my way to this excellent site and am looking forward to participating in this discussion board.

I was diagnosed with Beginning Myeloma in December 2010 after my alert GP spotted an anomalous anaemia value in a battery of blood tests that were primarily concerned with a review of my Irritable Bowel Syndrome [IBS]. She referred me to the local Consultant Haematologist. At present I have no symptoms and am on a two-monthly "watch and wait" programme.

I am 66 and a semi-retired consultant on training policy. This involves policy development across the EU, working from home with some regular travel to meetings. I (try to) keep that part of my life to no more than 50%. I recognise that I need to get more fit and active and am fortunate in having a garden that provides plenty of opportunity for outside work. I'm planning to restart beekeeping this year. My wife is very supportive and my elder daughter (a paediatric physiotherapist) keeps me in line.

Well a warm welcome John to the site nobody "wants" to join. You are right this is an excellent resource provided by MyelomaUK. You will find we are a friendly and supportive bunch here and the information on the site first class.

Well done to your Doctor for picking up the anaemia link, my own doctor missed it and I subsequently had all sorts of problems when I developed a tumour in the neck which I could have avoided.

    Kindest regards
    David

    Thanks David,

It's good to feel welcome! Having engaged in these communities professionally for over 10 years, it's an interesting experience to participate in a learning and supportive environment.

As people may have noticed, my original post was early in the morning. I've had a tendency for many years to wake in the small hours when my mind is at it's clearest. Being a "lark" is something that I've learned to value.

    Happy New Year to all,

    John

You will find that many people post early mornings, I did myself for some time. It is not because they are "larks" like you, but, because they are on Dexamethasone which keeps them awake 😀 .

    kindest regards

    Hi John

I am sorry that you have joined the site but You are in the right place. Welcome. As David says the people on this site are excellent. My husband was dignosed 4 years ago – (attended doctor for one thing and they found this bl**dy disease.) He was lucky it was found so early – he visits consultant every 2 months and they keep an eye on him. So far his bloods are within "range" – (not allowed to ask questions I get my answers here).

I hope all goes well with you
    Best wishes Jean

    Hi John

From another newcomer, welcome. I do hope that the "wait and see" phase lsts long!

I travelled on an ambulance today with an MM survivor of 11 years so all is not grim.

    Best wishes.
