I have multiple myeloma measured by Lambda light chains (FLC) in my blood. After approximately 12 months of induction therapy I had a stem cell transplant. It is now approximately 2.5 months after the transplant and I have had a blood test showing that my FLC’s are at 111 which is a very similar level to that prior to the sct. I cannot speak to my consultant at the moment but am obviously very worried that the sct has not worked. I was expecting normal FLC levels. Does anyone have experience of this?

Hi Marky Sometimes it takes a year or so to get maximum response from a stem cell transplant, although 100 days after transplant is usually significant. Only your consultant will know the significance of your result.
I hope that your appointment is soon, and your consultant can be reassuring.

    Hi Marky,

I would try and get a phone consultation with your consultant. If you tell his secretary that you have concerns and that you would like a quick chat with him, I am sure they would try to accommodate you. In my experience they have always been very helpful in alleviating concerns.

    Dear Tony and Mulberry.

Thank you for your responses. I have now seen my specialist consultant for amyloidosis and my Multiple Myeloma consultant. They were both very reassuring and echoed Mulberry’s comments that it will take time and trends are more important than a single result I believe that Lambda light chains react differently to paraproteins. Still nervous though!

Well that sounds positive! I am pleased for you that it has gone that way. In my experience you just have to stick with the regime, with the hope that things will get better in the future, which is exactly what happened to me. In my opinion, it is worth it in the long run, and I would definitely have the treatment again because for me, the benefits outweigh the unpleasant aspects of the treatment. Please let us know how you get on.

    Regards, Tony
