Ron I agree about the migraines. I've taken some aspirin while not on any myeloma treatment and I've found that if taken very early on in a migraine attack, it can be surprisingly effective.

Thanks for your reply. John isn't my bf, but a very dear friend – like a second father for me (he is much older), so I don't think I should mother too much 😀
However I am the one who helps him to find information on the internet since he isn't that kind of guy. And you have all been fantastic helping me with that task! I will talk to him tomorrow and see how it is. I could immagine it might just be some discomfort because he has been working too hard – at least I hope so!

John isn't doing too well today. He just told me on the phone that he feels like sleeping all the time. I told him to get the flu jab, but obviously it is too late to catch this one.

He said he didn't expect this flu to be worse for him than for anybody else. He doesn't know much about MM, which in one way is good because it doesn't occupy his thoughts and prevent him for worrying too much.

But now I am in doubt, should I tell him to contact his doctor regarding the flu? Or will it just make him worry unnecessarily?
I am worried because I just read about one MM patient who died from flu, but that guy has surely been much weaker than John and he was in a hospital where also 2 otherwise healthy persons died from the same flu, so it was probably the worst flu ever.
    What to do?

    Hi Amelie.
I dont think you can take chances with this disease and flu, I think John should see a Dr and get some Tamiflu, and or Aciclivor anything else he may recommend. He still has a very immature immune system which will need some help.
I dont have myeloma my husband does, but I did have flu about two months ago for the first time in my old age life! All I wanted to do was sleep and my bones ached as well as my teeth! It was truly awful, Peter had it too and at that time he was in remisssion. He relapsed shortly afterwards even though he was taking anti biotics. Dont take chances take care.

Thank you so much for the advice, Min. I will tell John straight away to see the doctor.

    Hi Amelie

Sorry to hear about Johns flu and hope he soon gets over it, as they all say the Dr is the best one to contact and in the mean time drink plenty of water.

    Love Tom xx

    Thank you Tom!
I have told him to see the doctor and usually he listens to me, so I hope he will do it. At the moment I am terrified.

Ok, now it seems it wasn't a flu, he is ok and back to work. What a drama for nothing 😀
Hopefully it means it isn't too late to have the flu jab.

Even when in remission I'm paranoid about infections. I always carry the antibacterial gel in my bag and use it when out. However, I think careful hand washing and sensible avoidance of people with active infectiions (where possible) is advised but don't let it stop you enjoying your remission now it's here!

You have the right attitude! I wish I could convince John to use the hand gel.

I've read a suggestion from a doctor about Vics 1st defence and intend trying it if I ever get round to going on a flight. It might be a good idea for others to try if they are flying to a holiday destination. (please post results) 🙂

I did ask about this at my last appointment. My Consultants words to me were "You can now mix with the human race, just avoid people with colds etc if you can and be fussy about hygiene – otherwise enjoy life". And, yes, colds and bugs in general are more dangerous to an MM sufferer as you would expect them to be.

Thanks a lot for asking! It is very good to know.
