Worked my last day on Wednesday 18 September. I had mixed feelings and a few tears as I have worked for the company for 17 years but I have no regrets. I will be able to help Ian when he gets home and have a slower pace of life. Already looking at all the hobbies I can do but mostly looking forward to being in the house and not rushing around visiting hospital. Ian will be discharged on 7 October and work starts on the toilet on Monday. He is making great progress and we even went out to lunch yesterday using the zimmer and wheelchair. It was good to see him away from hospital and a bit more his usual self.

Hi Maureen
Well Happy retirement and well done in making that choice I know it was a good one.
I bet you cant wait to have Ian home, getting out of hospital will do you all wonders.
Good Luck with your retirement.
Love Tom Onwards and Upwards xx
Hi Maureen
Good luck,it's a big thing to step off the round about, change of a whole life style,I never had any regrets, sold my business at 54 and decided to do a lot of travelling to make up for all the things we never did,got to admit it was scary plus getting use to a different life style, but look ing back,it was the best thing we ever did,no regrets:-) if we had waited until Slim was 65 ,he would have been to ill.
Maureen enjoy what ever time is left to you both, live every day to the fullest, and Ian might turn out to be one of the lucky ones and have many many years of remission and good health, lots of people are scared to step into the unknown,if you can do this now it will hold you in good stead for the future on this roller coaster.Love Eve
Hi Maureen,
You did an amazing job all those months combining work and visiting Ian at the hospital but it must be a relief to now know you can focus on yourself and Ian, it sounds like you have made the right choice.
Enjoy the slower pace of life 🙂
Megan
Hi Megan
When you give up work,it's not a slower pace of life in fact you often wonder how you have managed to find the time to go to work, sounds silly!!! But any one who has retired will tell you the same,I suppose it's how you think of work. I think some people live to work and others work to live,.
You just put more hours into living,it's just choosing how to live, for me it's simple things having time to smell the bluebells in the spring, right now it's watching all the swallows gathering on the beach getting fat eating insects, ready for the migration, fantastic sight, hundreds of them in mass..Love Eve
Hi Eve,
You are definitely right!! I work to live and although I am very lucky that my job is only part time I do find it gets in the way of all the other things I would rather be doing 🙂
The simple things are what matter most and that is often what makes us happiest.
Megan
Enjoy your retirement Maureen.
I always used to say that I would never retire – I enjoyed work. When I finally decided to retire, at the ripe old age of 55 I never ever regretted it. At first I took a little job driving a white van for Boots, MD to Driver in one day :-D. 16 hours a week but it was real good fun. No hassle just pick up the bags and deliver them end of day go home no worries.
And, now looking back with MM and APC I am so, so pleased I did and we did all the things we wanted to do. It has been great.
Kindest regards – vasbyte

Hi Tom, Eve, Megan, Eve, David and Jo
Thanks for your good wishes. Can't believe that Ian is coming home in one week. It will be great not to rush out to hospital especially now summer has gone. Looking forward to having our bottle of wine together and cuddling up on a Friday night.
Bathroom being made into wet room and should be finished on Friday. Ramp being made and care package put in place.
Will need to apply for a blue badge, I believe it is a huge form to fill in.
Haven't had time to miss work this week.
