Just thought I'd update you as Etta has dropped off.

Day 1 was Chemo day. Big bag of the stuff and then plenty of bags of fluids to flush it all through, that was on top of the anti sickness, anti this and anti that, she lost count after a while! Anyway, not too bad throughout the day but sick as a dog from about 11pm onwards until early this morning.

Day 2 and she has just finished having her cells put back in. Feeling a bit groggy after a rough night but otherwise not too bad considering. One thing I have noticed though is the smell of sweetcorn. Etta can't smell it herself but phew!

I've no doubt she will be on herself in a few days telling you how she's doing, but the staff are lovely and looking after her well.

    Hi Craig and Etta

And Etta will sleep loads later on and as for the sweet corn I could taste it everytime the bag that was put on got into my system that will pass in a few days.

Give Etta My love and a little hug and tell her that whatever happens and how rough it gets she wil get better.
    Hope its a smooth one.

    Hello Craig and etta,

Very best of luck to you both. Really hope that etta feels better soon….and for you Craig the disappearance of the sweetcorn!. That sickness must be really tough. I am sure I read on Ali's post about her mum not tom wait until you even feel sick but get the anti sickness pills on the go ASAP. Hope I'm right?

    Best wishes

    Hi Vicki and Craig
Onto the home straight now, just a few more weeks of horribleness then recovery.
Yes take the anti sickness stuff every time it is offered was my motto, I slept through one med round and forgot to ask and lived to regret it. The process is horrid enough without being extra sick, it doesn't always stop it or the nausea too, so better to take it.

    Hi Craig and Etta

Was wondering how things are going. Having just gone through this with my Mum I agree with the others. My Mum couldnt tolerate 1 sort of anti sickness so they offered a different one (it seems they have a menu of stuff to try!).

Try and look after yourself too Craig, as it kind of takes its toll on the person watching. Worrying, to and fro from the hospital and the phonecalls in the evening you have to make to well wishes when all you want to do is relax and take stock of the situation.

Sending a big hug to you both

    Hello all,

Sorry I've not been on but been a bit busy tootling up and down the motorway everyday working and visiting.

All went well, just coping with the sickness and "the other end" at the moment! They put a driver in with anti-sickness stuff in after a few days as Etta was throwing up a lot. It seems to have done the trick but she's still not eating a lot and she does have the odd bout of sickness.

She's sleeping a lot at the moment but I guess it's just her bodies way of telling her to let it get on with it's job of getting her better. She starts her GCwhatjamacallit injections tonight, for 5 nights to help kick start her cells, but so far the doctors are pleased with her blood results and the staff here at Blackpool are great, can't do enough for you.

Will keep you posted with what's happening.

    All the best to everyone,
    Craig

    Thanks Craig,

Its a busy time for you – hang in there!

Poor Etta, hope its not too rough for her. Just remind her it will soon be over. There were a couple of days where my Mum asked me not to visit (she just wanted to sleep) and she felt really poorly. My Dad still went though and sat with her. We refer to this time as the hibernation!.

If you get time:-) take a look at the thread Mums SCT and look at the end ones, I cant believe how far my Mums come and Etta will be the same:-)

Love to you both Ali xx

    Hi Craig and etta,

Hope all is going well and those cells are starting to improve! Hope the d &v are also reducing. I found Ali's posts about her mum really helpful, planning ahead and realising we are all in is together.

Look after yourself too Craig as etta will need tlc when she comes home, and it's not good if you are shattered too! , shame I never practise what I preach (good at theory though!).

    Hello all,

Another big gap in the updates (I'm rubbish at this!).

Anyway, Etta got discharged last Weds (5th). A bit earlier than I anticipated but they were happy enough with her levels and the D&V had calmed down considerably.
She had been on anti-biotics for a high temp but then they found out it was an infection in her Hickman line which was causing problems so they removed that on the Tuesday. Tests on Weds AM proved all clear so it was homeward bound!

We went back on Friday AM for blood tests and everything came back positive so thats a good sign, back this Friday for another checkup.

She is managing to keep down small amounts of food and is sleeping a lot, but I keep trying to get her moving around at least once a day to keep her strength up.

The only down side at the moment seems to be a bout of throwing up. It's weird though as it seems to be mostly wind then the bile starts. I have started her back on the Metaclopramide (the anti-sickness ones). They gave her an anti-viral (Aciclovir) which she hates the tastes of as it dissolves as soon as you take it and some Co-Trimoxazole (no idea what they do!).

Does anyone know if this windy/bile sickness is normal or should I be ringing up and asking about it?

Ali: Yes, your notes on your mum were a great help thanks, good to know she is doing well and I will know what to expect 🙂

Vicki: I know exactly what you mean, we all seem to be good at preaching to others but never take the same advice!

    Best wishes to all.

    Hi Craig and Etta

Thankyou for posting, I was wondering how you were getting on.

What a relief Ettas home. My Mum had the bile/sickness – (shes been home 3 1/2 weeks) she still suffers quite badly from acid and as a result has a mouth full of ulcers. I dont recognise the woman in hospital to the woman now, Mums doing really well, still tired in the afternoons etc but is out and about, mowing the lawn etc! Its amazing, I do hope that Etta picks up as my Mum has. Dont get me wrong there were a few tears on her return home as I think she expected to feel better than she did and she was pretty hard on herself. One day at a time I think is the order of the day.

    Take care of yourselves

    Love Ali xx

    Hi Craig
I'm with Tom here, I took the anti sickness tablets twice a day for about the first month, more often sometimes when i felt so shocking, then I took them on and off for the next few months. Keep going with the antivirals -very important so you don't get shingles, the cotrimoxazole is an antibiotic, so keep going with that too. I had a lot of abdominal pain, nausea and vomitting and general upset for about 8-10 months, in fact it's only very recently settled down, (I hesitate to say this as every time I have recently it has started up again:-P )

    Hi Craig and etta,

Just catching up in posts. Really so pleased that it's worked out ok. As Ali and Helen has said, one day at a time. Ali, your mum sounds like she is going great guns. Not too fast though, rest as well 🙂
