Hi everyone

I thought I would share the good news that my mum has been today for her stem cell harvesting procedure. She was hooked up to the machine for 4 hours and they collected 6.2 million cells, which is enough for 2 transplants. Its true what they say, after a weekend of pain, its all been worth it – "No pain, no gain" Hoorah, another hurdle jumped over. Clinic day next Monday and hopefully we will get a date for SCT.

Hi Mari, I truly hope that Stephen has had a productive day too.

Love Alison 🙂

Well done to your Mum and as you say no pain no gain 😀 thats it now just a wait for SCT date now. I cant remember how long it was from one to the other for me??? just knew it was getting a room free 😀 hope they dont do what the did with mine? I also had enough for two but they put them into three bags?? one not enough so no point in leaving one so got the three shoved into me, now is that the reason I seem to be doing OK?? well I will never know.

Good Luck to your Mum.

Hi Tom

You were crammed full of lovely cells anyhow, and its doing the trick nicely for you. I was under the impression you could only have 1 harvest procedure, but if you read Mari and Stephens story hes gone in today for his 2nd harvest.

Did heads roll at the hospital when that happened Tom?

Thanks for your kind message

Hi Ali

Na dont need heads to roll when they are looking after me lol.

But yes I can have another harvest and SCT if needed and mine went well realy so I wouldn't have a problem doing it again 😀

Hi Ali
What a relief, it took me 4 hours on first day then 2 hours on second day so your mum did well to do it all at once. Another hurdle out of the way, now have a really good few weeks of rest, holiday and put lots of weight on, ( mum, not you 🙂 ) so she has good reserves for transplant, no need to eat much afterwards means you can concentrate on all the drinking you have to do when you don't feel so good. Not long to go now.

Hi Ali,

Thats great news, I bet your mum is delighted to have done so well in just one day. You will see from my previous post that Steve has not done so well today but he was not great on his first time round either, it took him two days to get just over 5 million cells which all went back in during his transplant. He seems very attached to his stems cells. Today he has had a very expensive but hopefully very effective stem cell mobiliser drug and hopefully overnight all his cells will come rushing out of his bone marrow into his blood stream. The docs did not seem too perturbed but they have said he will need three days on the machine. He is not best pleased at the thought of that!
Once again, big hugs and congratulations to your mum, you must be delighted,

Hi Vicki and Colin

Thankyou for your kind words. I am really pleased that she did it in 1 go! Mums chuffed she is spared another day at the hospital I think. I must say I was exhausted last night! Its funny how by just sitting there makes you tired lol. Good luck to Colin – I hope its a breeze and he collects millions!

Hi Helen

Yes, what a relief! Mum cant fly as she had a clot and is taking clexane, but she and Dad are hoping to get away this week somewhere in this country – just a shame the weather is as it is. Hows work?

Hi Mari

I have posted on your other post too. Just want to say thanks for your support – It really means alot! I am very grateful that my Mum got what they need in the 1 go, the specialist nurse seemed very confident that 1 day is all it would take after the results of the blood tests came in, then she got the magic phone call last night.

Will be thinking of you again today….3 days on the machine? Will that get Stephen out of doing the packing for your hols? lol

Best of luck

HI Ali,

Thank you for your support, things are looking a lot better now and the wonder drug has done its work. Steve is on the machine as I write but he wil only get 4 hours in today.

As for the packing, we have been married nearly 30 years and I have never known him pack a thing. He just says I need swim shorts and T shirts and It is up to me to fill in the gaps!

I am still hoping it will be ok, it's still not 100% sure. I hope your mum and dad get a good break. Apparently the Jet stream is set to move and we are due for some lovely weather for the end of the month, just what they need. I hope you are making time for a break as well. All these hospital appointments are very stressful and I sure you could do with one,

Much love Mari xx

What a productive lady your Mum has proved to be, Ali!!

It took them 3 days to coax just over the bare 2 million of those pesky little cells when I had my harvest! 🙁

I wish your Mum and Dad a lovely few days away and good weather to enjoy it with.

Hi Mari

Good to hear the wonder drug has done the trick, and I hope you got a good phone call this evening saying how many Stephen has collected.

My hubby is like that with the packing…as long as hes got clean pants is what he says! but of course when we get there he starts with "why didnt you pack my blue tshirt" etc – men eh!

I am praying for the lovely weather to come as school hols are nearly upon us (lucky you). I have 2 boys aged 5 and 8 and being confined to the house is not something im looking forward to! Yes we are going to book to go away when Mum gets her date for SCT I will feel easier about making plans.

Are you driving Stephen to Kings tomorrow?

Hi Eliz

Yes she was very productive! All the pain over the weekend was definately worth it. Shes been to the coast today and ate fish and chips and felt better than she has done over the last few weeks! Fingers crossed for some good weather, I think we all deserve it!

Hi Ali we have not heard how many he has got, he has got to go back tomorrow to find out, he had another plexiafor injection and lots of GCSF. He expects to need to be there for two more days.

I am glad your mum had a nice day out, it has been quite warm here (Kent) today and, best of all, dry.

I will keep you posted, watch this space!

Love Mari xx
