I know that this subject comes up a lot but I would like to share my new find.

    World first Insurance http://www.world-first.co.uk

I wanted to go on a cruise but I had a quote from All Clear insurance and they wanted to charge over £1500 I could not pay this therefore did not book the trip. However, Mike has been feeling very low so decided to see if I can find cheaper insurance but still being covered for MM and a stroke. I came across World first insuance had an online quote and they would charge £172 and this was covering Mikes conditions. I didnt believe this quote so phoned them today they have confirmed that is is correct. So I came home tonight and booked a transatlantic cruise to the Caribbean, this has cheered Mike up no end.
Just wanted to share this as im sure others would find this info useful

So pleased you managed to get a decent quote I hope you have a great time.

Just to add for info that it is also worth looking at MIA and we found that we were insured by our general health insurance for travel. So do check any insurances you already have

    Bon voyage Gill

I was always checking the specialist insurance companies that make a virtue out of covering people with pre-existing conditions, but taking a wild punt I just got a quote from "Insure and go" 0844 888 2787 which beats the lot. (£160 for Three weeks in the Philillipines for a 67 year old man in C.R but with 4 compression fractures….Not on any medication)

might be worth including them in yournext ring-around for travel insurance!
    cheers.

    Hi
We have just returned from a trip to Dubai and we used World First Insurance. We also could not beleive the quote we got….to cover Peter's myeloma and a disc condition i have we paid £214 and this was for a yearly policy. We will be travelling again in May back to Dubai. I would reccommend that everyone gives them a call xx

Hi all…. got the shock of my life yesterday… found cheap travel insurance with the AA on line.

A week in Vegas for me and Mrs K cost us only £19! I was on the verge of signing up with another best offer of £120 with http://www.payingtoomuch.com
then chanced it with the AA. Fully declared my Myeloma (2 x SCT and in remission). This time last year they wouldn't insure me, so something must have changed.

    Worth a try!!

I tried World First, but they've changed their underwriter since I last tried them and it was a real palaver and not so reasonable. But I did get a good quote, that included not just MM, but also depression, chronic kidney failure and Graft versus Host Disease, from Free Spirit: http://www.freespirittravelinsurance.com/

    It's certainly worth shopping around.

    Good luck!

There's a number of posts on which insurance is cheapest or easiest to buy.

But does anyone have experience of making a claim? I'm concerned that some of the cheaper quotes (less than £100) don't look realistic, and may not pay up willingly. So it would be good to know if people have had good or bad experiences when it comes to actually paying out.

Thanks Trish. Good luck with Peter's treatment.

Post something on the insurance if and when you can, it would be understandable if it's not the top priority for you right now.

    Hi John

Will post as soon as we have an answer.I have spoken to world First this evening and they are sending me a claim form.
Peter is devastated that he wont be able to travel, we were all booked to visit our son and his wife in Dubai and meet our newly born twin grandchildren who are due in April.

    Hi John

The claim form has arrived………….10 A4 pages in total!!!!!!!
We have read it and then re read it, not sure we fully understand some of the questions so going to give them a call on Monday. However what we do understand is that the main evidence will be obtained from the consultant and hopefully his info will then confirm lots of other bits of stuff they need to know. Going to call our specialist nurse at the hospital and get her to help us too.
Think jumping through hoops springs to mind……….

    Hi

Well the claim forms have been completed and photocopied and posted off….so we await the next stage.

The hospital doctor was fantastic with the info he had to give also writing an additional A4 page of added extras, he said that he was often asked for extra info so decided that he would send it straight away.
Only problem we had was with the airline, we needed a non show letter from them. Well Peter was not due to travel until 11th may and they wouldnt give letter until after then. However they have given me a ref no and if need be the insurance company get info through that.

    Trish xx
