Peter has seen the consultant today and he has decided that Peter will restart his Velcade. Treatment was stopped on 17th June to allow Peter to have a hernia operation. Cycle 6 will start on Friday and all being well it will end on 23rd September. The consultant was pleased with the para protein level at 8.5, although this latest reading was from the 17th June which was the last time Peter had Velcade. Bloods have been taken today and we will know in a few days if the level has gone up / stayed the same over the last 7 weeks with no treatment. The consultant also told us that if necessary they may decide to continue with further cycles of Velcade after the course of 8 is completed. Has anyone else had extended Velcade treatment.

    Hi Trish,

Sorry, I don't have any knowledge of extended Velcade treatment as Phil only had six cycles with the last two cycles reduced due to the peripheral neuropathy but I wanted to check how Peter was feeling after the hernia op?

    Hello Megan

Thank you for your reply, Peter is recovering very well after his operation. He has no pain and his wounds have healed very well. He is in a very good place at the moment, but suppose that will change over the next few weeks when the chemo and dex start doing their worst again. However we have exciting times ahead. Our son and daughter in law are bringing their 3 month old twin boys home to England for a visit to see their extended families. I made the trip to Dubai in May to see them at 4 weeks old. Peter unfortunately was not allowed to travel and meet them. One week tomorrow night we shall be meeting them at Manchester airport. I cannot wait to see Peter's face when he finally gets to give them a big cuddle and kiss xxxxxxx

    Hi Trish,

I am so glad to hear that, hopefully the Velcade and dex won't bring Peter down too much when he starts again. Seeing the twins will definitely give him a boost 😀

Good luck with the pp results.

    Hi Trish,
I have'nt been on this forum for quite a while now, mainly due to the fact that my wife, Cecilia, has been doing very well during the past few months. She was diagnosed in June 2006 and had one SCT that was not successful. She has been through all of the various treatments (chemo) since the SCT failed in 2007 and started on Velcade plus Dex for a few months before she had to change due to the usual side effects (PN and Diabetes etc). In Nov 2010 she started back on Vecade, without the Dex, and has fared very well by all accounts (thats nearly three years ago!!). So Trish, hopefully Peter will do just as well as Cecilia and reap the benefits of extended Velcade treatment. By the way, Cecilia gets it injected "subcut" (subcutaneously) and it is hassle free!.
Best of luck to both of you,
    John

    Hi John

That's good news for Cecilia. Yes Peter has his Velcade subcut too. been today and started cycle 6 and also had his dose of Zometa too. We are looking forward to getting to the end of the course and hoping for a goow result and then be able to have a bit of time hospital free. At the moment our lives revolve around organising our business and hospital dates.

Doesn't it just everything revolves around that next appointment!
Keep looking forward to the time when you can have a rest from it.
It took time but I don't go back to the clinic until November, bliss .
    All the best

Absolutely, Maureen. Am going down to London to see my son Rob finish his 100 mile cycle ride.
    Thanks & regards Tony F
