  • Hello all

Sorry I can’t offer any information on the readings, but just wanted to pop on and say good luck with any treatment. My partner Colin was diagnosed in 2011 and had an sct in November 2012.

Just wishing you all the best with a full remission or if mgus that it just smoulders in the background and doesn’t leap to life 🙂

    Hi all

Thanks so much for the replies it’s been most helpful. Contacted nowicantravel and they were v helpful. Told them where we are in Colin’s situation and they were great. We got an annual multi trip for £198 (one trip was 126) so we thought we’d go on the positive! I have answered yes to all the questions where possible and printed it out…[Read more]

That sounds excellent Helen and I will definitely give them a go when I look for my Spanish insurance. I think the excess are very reasonable. When I first started down this path, 2009, I was getting that sort of quote but as things have progressed and I have added another incurable cancer to my collection it is just getting a little harder for…[Read more]

OK one last quick reply then off to bed you go and down to work I go.

You are right my brothers family live in Jo’burg. My Son and his SA Fiance, with my Son’s two children are in SA at the moment. They had a major family reunion the other night and are cementing connections to the SA family which is so so good.

This is our second trip to…[Read more]

Hi Helen, I am supposed to be doing my Family tree but as I took Dex today I will be awake all night so will have plenty of time to catch up.

Holidays are important to us all and a great moral lifter which we sometimes need. I am a great admirer of Andy and his trips. We are in the processes of planning one trip to Spain this year. Other…[Read more]

Hi Helen, I read you post with great interest.

My wife has worked in Insurance for over 30 years, She has all the qualifications but now at nearly 70 just does the processing for a local company. She tried to retire but they would not let her, in the nicest possible way, and she does 10 hours, of her choosing each week. they need to keep her…[Read more]

  • Thanks Ladies, Yes, it makes sense to me anyway. At the moment I am doing well I see. I will have to start getting used to using these measurements I think.

    Many thanks for the help.

  • Hi Guys and Gals, Over the years I have heard of the mention of Light Chains and Lambda but to be honest I never really took much notice as my Consultants always talked in terms of Paraprotiens.

Can any body give me a quick lesson about them and there relation to Myeloma? Where in the scale of things are light chains at 19 and Lambda at 18 for…[Read more]

    Hi

Help with travel insurance please. We want to book a holiday desperately. Colin has got so despondent today. He had a quote of £400 plus pounds for two weeks, and that was from all clear selected from a list the hospital gave us and another company that’s not bothered to ring back!

Any advice, also when I looked online one of the questions…[Read more]

  • Hi Hilitli,

I am sorry to hear about your Mum, it sounds as if she has really gone through the mill. I can only give you my experience with Velcade. I relapsed and was given Velcade as the next (2nd line) treatment. Unfortunately it did not suit me at all and I had very bad PN in my legs so after 3 doses I was taken off I am now on Revlimide…[Read more]

Hi Andy, I built my own computer for my 60 birthday it was a great machine and served me well for many years then I got sold some duff RAM and it burnt up the motherboard. My children bought me a new laptop a Dell Studio 1745. It is a good machine and I have used that ever since. Last week I put in 8 Meg Ram (was 4) and a new SSD drive and…[Read more]

Hi Andy, My Doctor wanted me to go on to Rivaroxaban but the consultant said no for some reason. So I am on the old clexane, I am going to take it up with him on the 21st Feb, my next consultation. 700 injections Wow.

I think the trick with Clexane is to keep the needle still whilst injecting and inject slowly but steadily. Do not wipe the…[Read more]

    Hi Stephen

Great to hear from you. I was only thinking of you the other day as you were so supportive to Colin and I. I can’t really help with the questions you pose but just wanted to wish you well.

    Hi trigger

Would just like to echo what the others have said….it is always a gamble because everyone’s mm is an individual condition. My partner was diagnosed at 56 and had an sct in November 2012. Fingers crossed so far still in remission. I would say that each persons journey through an sct is also individual.

If your mum feels she can go…[Read more]

  • I haven’t volunteered for a BMB 😉 The last time I asked about a BMB I was rather given the impression that the hospital does not really believe in them and tends to stick to Blood measurements. We shall see what happens at the next consultation.

  • Hi Guys and Gals, I have just received my follow up letter from my appointment on 24th Jan 2014. I have been on this game since 2009 and had all the usual stuff from Stem Cell Transfers to Velcade. I have never got below 2.9 Paraprotein, even after the SCT.

I have had 4 courses of Lenalidomide (revlimide) and to be quite honest whilst the…[Read more]
