I would suggest also ringing the Myeloma UK line to ask them about what help is available.

If it were me I would get it looked at.

When I heard about balloon kyphoplasty I hoped they could do it for me (lost about 5" and am stooped over) but unfortunately they have decided after xrays and lengthy discussions that it will not be an option for me as my vertebrae are too damaged.

I can't help thinking that if only they had looked at it at the start of my diagnosis it might have been possible, but there we are!! 🙁

The best they have decided they can do for me is to provide me with a couple of thoracic braces that I can wear to hold me more upright when out and about in the hopes this will alleviate the back pain I have constantly.

I hope your consultant will consider it for your wife, as I know too well about the depression that being a weird shape can give me from time to time as well as the worry that my posture is putting a strain on my internal organs.

    Hi Sarah
I am sorry to hear your Mum has been diagnosed but glad you have found this great meeting place on the web to discuss things with other carers and patients.

Anything you have problems with or questions or your Mum you want to ask just go ahead and post and someone will be along with a reply I am sure.

One thing that might be useful to get for her is a Myeloma Diary.

I have only recently found out about them and got mine but wish I had had it from the word go last year.

It was so good to see a post from you Roz, and such an insightful one too!

It summed up many of my feelings and current attitude to life so well.

And thank you to the rest of you for the poems you posted.

It is great that your Dad feels able to go to work still!! I felt when on my CDT that if only my back was not killing me (collapsed vertebrae) I could have done my normal stuff, as I really saw none of the side effects that others experienced.

He might just be one of the lucky ones too!!

As long as he follows what his body wants him to do he should be fine.

It is great to hear how well Sam (and you) are doing, Nikki 😀

Have a lovely time in Poland and I hope you both return refreshed and ready to cope with the challenges of buying your new home and him going back to work!!

Great progress, David, in spite of those paraprotein numbers 🙂

Ain't it great to be told you don't need to see the consultant for that long!! Enjoy the 'holiday'.

I second the ice cubes trick!!

I had my SCT at Bournemouth hospital and the nurses there had a stash of ice pops and lollies which they made me suck continuously over the whole infusion period.

AS I don't eat sweetened things on the whole it felt a bit weird to eat all those sugars (half a dozen ice pops plus about the same quantity of lollies) but I had no painful effects either in my mouth or down my gastric tract, not even needing those unscented baby wipes we were warned I would need instead of toilet paper!!

    What a great picture, David!!

I have saved it to use in another forum. 😉
