Thanks everyone for your input, it looks as if definitely will be worth having done, as the pain is what stops me from being active. My hubby has a bad back from disc problems and is limited in how far he can walk, so pushing me around in wheelchairs has not helped him at all.

We have bought a small mobility scooter for me to be able to wizz around the long hospital corridors to appointments like zelodrenate drips and pentamadine nebuliser sessions on my own at times, so hopefully once my back has been sorted and I don't need it he can use it himself and try to keep up with me when I walk!!

As yet I haven't heard whether my MRI scan showed that kyphoplasty is a serious option as I haven't seen my doctor lately. Hopefully on my '100 day results' meeting all will become clear.

    Hi Fran

I have been OK since coming out of hospital and am now down to a doctor's appointment every 2 weeks or so plus monthly bisophonate and pentamadine nebuliser sessions.

Though I did pick up a stinking cold a fortnight ago which is taking its time to go away and stops me getting out much at present as I don't want to pass on my cold to friends and family!!

Apart from that it is only the back pain from my deteriorated vertebrae that is stopping me get back to normal.

I am hoping for a kyphoplasty procedure in the near future which might let me stand and walk for more than a few minutes and get back to doing 'normal' things.

Hoping all is well with you

    Welcome to our family, Susan.

It sounds as if your Dad is a true fighter to have got back onto his feet again.

I am sure there are walking aids that they can let him try to see if they will help him move around while he becomes stronger without risking falling. Maybe asking his specialist nurse would help?

One piece of kit my husband has found useful for his weak/wobbly legs after spending some time in bed due to pneumonia recently was one of those pedal exercising gadgets that let you sort of 'cycle' while sitting down. We bought ours at a charity shop and it really helped him start to build up his leg strength without wearing him out.
I looked on ebay and there are loads there – I have attached a couple of photos of them so you know what I mean

Oh, Roz, my heart goes out to you and Michael.
I am praying that they can get on top of this new problem and start to bring your Michael back to being himself soon.

    Hugs to you

    Hi Roz!!

There were times when I was in hospital that i ignored my mobile and didn't respond as I didn't feel like talking to anyone, so don't read too much into Michael not picking up.

The staff should be able to keep you informed as to when he is to be sent back to the Hallamshire, as probably they will know more about it than he does, so don't hesitate to ask them.

    Sending you some cyberhugs

    Hi Keith
Sorry to hear your pain has returned after 2 and a 1/2 years of remission.
I hope your skeletal survey helps them decide quickly what needs to be done.

    Hi Fran!!

We are about in the same time frame as regards diagnosis, but I had my STC in August and am now at day 81!!

I wish you the best of experiences during your hospital stay and not too many of the nasty side-effects, if any at all.

Will you be able to get online while you are there? I found it really helped to pass the time during the few hours in the night that I managed to get a decent mobile network signal.

    Best wishes
    Elizabeth

Thanks for all you are doing, Stuart!

And thank you for fixing it so we don't have to fill in the subject box unless we want to change it to something different.

There is a topic in the 'Newcomer' section about how to add/change your profile picture if anyone is having problems doing it.

    Hi Debs!!

I had no discernable side effects from my CDT cycles at all. I hope you will be the same.
