I am so sorry things are not going better for your Dad, Dee.

As this is at the end of a long thread with many things discussed in it, it might be an idea to start a seperate thread in a diferent forum with your question about kidney problems, so it will be easier for anyone with some experience of this to see.

What an anti-climax for you both, Vicki

I am keeping everything crossed that those pesky numbers soon get to an acceptable level.

    Love to you both

Don't ever think anything that makes life easier for you and helps retain your quality of life is in any way a thing to feel guilty about, Mike!

The more you can do to avoid any further skeletal damage now the better it will be for your future mobility.

That sounds like great progress, Sherif 🙂

I wish her a smooth journey throughout her treatment.

Hello Charlie, welcome to the club none of us applied for membership in!

I was diagnosed in March 2010 and am now 62 years.

I was not offered a trials placement after diagnosis but put straight onto several cycles of CDT then a stem cell transplant within 6 months and have been in complete remission ever since.
However if I had been I think I would have gone for it, as I feel it would probably mean being more closely monitored and maybe given more options.

We have quite a few members here on the various trials who seem to feel it was definitely worth it.

As for the travelling, I see that might be a problem having to come over to the mainland, but from what I have heard, there are quite a few kinds of help available if you ask for it. MacMillan has advisors who can guide you through the hoops if you need to claim whatever benefits you are entitled to.

Wishing you all the best on your myeloma journey.

Welcome to the club you never asked to join, Mike!

I hope it won't be long before your test results allow your specialist doctor to plan your treatment if needed and get you out of that limbo-land.

As for whether carrying a post bag will make things worse, my doctor told me right at the beginning after diagnosis (after some of my vertebrae collapsed) not to lift anything heavier than a handbag!

So I would speak to your supervisor immediately about getting a trolley or frame on wheels to take the load off your spine.

Some of our posties have one like this

and I have seen one local postwoman actually jogging with hers!!

Since my SCT in August 2010 I have been receiving monthly infusions of a "bone strengthener" called Zoledronate, which seems to have stopped any futher deterioration of my spine, so hopefully they will be able to stop any further damage.

Great news that your harvest yielded so many of those little cells, Paul! 🙂

I only managed just over the minimum 2 million when I had mine. 🙁

Will that mean you get half returned now and the other half stored for another go in the distant future?

Wishing you an uneventful procedure and swift recovery.

    Well done that man!!

I am so pleased to hear enough cells were harvested and that you can go on that much needed holiday.

My SCT was similarly timetabled too – no hanging about for days between processes seemed good to me.

    Woohoo!! Well done that man!!

I am glad to hear you are now back at home, Stephen.

I know you don't really need to be told, but do listen to your body and rest when it tells you to!

I am so sorry to hear of your sad loss, Etta!

I am glad you were able to talk to your daughter over cyberspace and cry together, and rest assured that any time you feel the need to post here when things are getting on top of you there will always be someone to listen and respond.

I wish you and your family well over this sad time.

    Hang on in there, Keith!

When I started to try and drink 2-3 litres of water a day (in 2003 when I started eating Atkins) I filled 500 mls sports-top bottles and had one with me at all times so I could take a slurp every few minutes.

I found when using the computer that if I made myself take a drink every time the screen refreshed it wasn't long before I needed to get a fresh bottle out of the fridge.
