Hi everyone.. I've not posted since the end of last year when my dad became very poorly with infections however I check in regularly to see how everyone getting on! Dad is doing really well again now and is about to start his fourth cycle of velcade. He is tolerating it well so he is able to get out and about and do the things he wants to do! It's great to see..

David I hope you tolerate this treatment well also and get great results from it!

I was interested to read about the eye infection Mothas.. Dad has just had to delay a cycle due to an eye infection.. It's not something that's been mentioned as a side effect I don't think!

Best wishes to everyone and sorry I've not posted for a while..

    Hi lorna and dai…

Thank you both very much for your replies, they are very helpful and much appreciated!! We just haven't encountered the dropping platelets before now.

Dad has been told today that he has pneumonia.. Poor dad, I just wish he could get fit enough to start his next treatment. We are going two steps forward and three back, never two hours alike never mind two days. It's all so frightening for my mum and my sister and me too.. He's in the best place and will be looked after.. I just feel so helpless.

    Thank you again

Hi Michael.. Sorry to hear your wife is suffering with myeloma and I hope you get lots of help from this forum. My dad is in a similar situation to Josephine.. His first course of treatment hasn't worked so we are back to the beginning and he is going to start velcade! Unfortunately he is suffering with infection after infection at the moment and docs cannot get his treatment started until he is fitter.

I can't help with your question about why it isn't used initially but I just wanted to say hello as I have found these forums extremely helpful and supportive. I'm sure someone on here will be able to give you advice.

All the very best to your wife and take care of each other.

Hello all.. I've finally got my head together to post an update again.. What a long hard fortnight!!!

My dad has come home from hospital today thank goodness, it felt like it was never ending. He ended up with a strain of pneumonia, just what he could have done without bless him. He is feeling much better in himself though pretty weary and tired! Hopefully he will have good night sleep in his own bed!!

Doc hopes to get started with velcade in next week or two so lets get this myeloma zapped!!

I'm sorry I've not been on for a little while but I've been thinking about you all and hope things going ok.

    Once again… Thanks for listening.

    Take care

Hi pia… Just wanted to say hello.

I joined this forum a month or so ago.. I've read posts since my dad was diagnosed last December and finally plucked up the courage to join! I find it extremely comforting and hope you do too.

My dad is going to start velcade treatment in the next couple of weeks and we have everything crossed that it keeps this myeloma at bay.

My very best wishes to your mum in law and all the family, and hope she responds well.

    Take care

Hi Megan.. Nice to 'meet' you and thank you for replying.

I hope your husband Is responding well with his treatment and glad his side effects aren't too bad,

I wish we could get this temperature and infection of dads under control then we can start with the velcade. He has been moved to the high dependency unit this afternoon for more oxygen and I hope this starts to make him feel bit better.

Thank you all for your thoughts

    Hello everyone

I am feeling pretty miserable tonight and just thought I might put it into words.. Might help so hope you don't mind?!

Dad still in hospital and feeling pretty poorly! His temperature just won't go down and it worries me!! He also has oxygen on and has lost his appetite! On the up side his platelets and blood levels are pretty stable. Need to get him stabilised so he can begin his next course of treatment. His myeloma has relapsed so his first course of treatment didnt prove to be effective.. He is going to start velcade??!! Any info on this would be much appreciated?

I feel so helpless and each night I go to sleep thinking the next day will see his temperature lower and him feeling a bit brighter! It's been a rough old week but surely he must be due to turn the corner.

Thanks for listening and hope all going ok with you all.

    Hi all…

Ok so not great news from me today!! Dad been in hospital since Saturday and harvest is a non starter again today! We think he is still suffering from after effects of chemo last week. His platelets have dropped so having both platelet and blood transfusions at mo! He has also had temp but think that's settled now!

No idea where we go from here now.. I'm stuck! Will see what doc says today I guess.

Vicki and Colin I think I know exactly how you both must be feeling now, it seems like a mirror image of where we are at mo.. We feel so flat!!

Hope everyone had good weekend and take care

Hello all and thank you for replying to me…

Dad had an appointment with his doc yesterday and was told his myeloma was active again so we have everything crossed that the injections get these cells boosted!! Mum and dad seemed pretty calm about the whole thing but I just seem to fall apart!! Although vicki you are quite right each day is different and when I have good days they have bad days! I hope you and Colin are doing ok.. Despite the hair loss!

Tom and Chris.. Thank you for your replies and Chris good luck with your harvest.. When this week is it? Dad goes in on Monday for harvest (hopefully!!).

Take care and I will keep updating…
