Hi all land thanks for best wishes, and thanks too Peter for chin up 😉

I have still not had my protien results, I have had my copy off the doctors letter from the consultant, has my blood results, but says progressing paraproteins (sorry if spelling wrong), I am sure they would contact me if a problem.

Update on sore on my back, I seen a different dermatologist last Wednesday, the sore is about the same, been around for over 3 months, he said it may be sun damage, so rather than do a biopsy, best to take it all away as it bothers me! So I have than done under local within the month. Oh and I have shingles!! The medical student got more than she hd bargained for when I went in consulting suite ! lol

I must have a read round and see how everyone is and not use this as a blog, sorry!

    Best wishes to you all

Hi TontF, I have just seen Dr Barton ( for the first time), I said hello from you, she said hello back to you! 🙂 She mentioned there may be a myeloma group starting back up.
My blood count is all within range, kidney function okay, calcium back up( it was borderline), just waiting for my paraprotien. I am in day ward waiting for zometta (45 mins so far,but they have fed and watered me),my records/notes have gone astray between the hope ward and here.
Other than that, sounds like interim bloods at 6 weeks and clinic in 3 months xx
    Best wishes to all

    Thanks Tony,

I will say hi if I see her, never seem to get the same consultant twice in a row nowadays. Although I heard from Dr Garg recently, (emails) regarding holidays. She gave thumbs up as I am in remission! ;-).

Hi again Tony, I am on the trial too, and go up to the Hope clinic, I agree it is much better, and seem to get seen to much quicker! One day we may bump into each other again. I know what you mean about getting tired. Keep well.

Hi Tony, I am 19 months post SCT, I had my last baby injections at begining of July, and I am on 3 monthly clinic visits, mine is 14th August. So we are pretty much the same stage. I still have morphine for back, and 6 weekly Zometta. But I drove for the first time since diagnosis the other day! There are more positives than negatives post SCT though, even getting appetite back makes it worth it! I know what you mean about feeling concerned as clinic gets closer. My last visit was with another consultant, mostly okay, he actually phoned me with my interim bloods and urine results, which is a first for me! I am borderline calcium, whatever that means, if it goes any lower I have to come off Zometa. Sorry I am going into blog mode. Good to hear you are okay and long may it continue. Can I just add good luck to anyone waiting for SCT, it is daunting but well worth it. Regards Karen x

Hi All, not been on for a while and have only just stumbled on this. Very interesting! I live in Oakham, 9 miles (ish) from Melton Mowbray. We live a 2 minute walk from a plastic engineering factory. Twenty years ago I worked for 5 years (North West of England) for Nuclear Electric, catering for workers, labs etc. So I could take my pick from a few causes, I also used to have permed hair, for around 15 years, I have read articles about Perms and hair dye which makes me wonder too.

I attend LRI for treatment, including Zometta. Earlier this year I got chatting to a fellow sufferer in the waiting room of clinic, he let on to a man who had just arrived, then he told me that he was a former work colleague and one of 5 others that worked at the same company now suffering MM, (radiation was mentioned). Guess where they worked? Melton Mowbray! Food for thought eh?

I have mainly worked in catering, was diagnosed aged 50, I am female and touch wood the only member of my large extended family to suffer this dreadful cancer.

Good luck to you all. xx Karen

Hi Richard, thanks for your reply. Another couple of tips in your reply about attitude and there being no point in feeling guilty. Your are right, but easier said than done sometimes eh?

Also rereading your earlier post, I must also make a point of remaining anonymous.

Hi LoisLobann and all. I have not been on for a while so I have only just noticed this. I totally identify with Alpenator’s words about realising this is it, never going to get the old me back. And of feeling guilty, I too feel very very guilty I have inflicted this on my husband, and daughters, they do not deserve it. I am also on a lot of morphine, but the pain has got bad in my back and ribs, and I have recently had yet another MRI (awaiting results). DickB I found your post very helpful, looking at this MM from another perspective. Thank you. These types of posts, this site in fact makes living with this dreadful, cruel illness a bit more bearable.

If I can be of any assistance to the book, please feel free to use my name.

    Regards to all x Karen
