Peter attended the day unit today for a GCSF injection and to see the consultant. I was absent having gone to visit our grandaughter for a birthday party 'down south'
But he said he was happy with the progress so far and the grim look he had last week was no longer there. We have had a few days of mega nausea and vomiting feeling quite week and…[Read more]

Hi Gill,
I was wondering where you had got to and this explains why we had not heard from you for a while.
I hope Stephen starts to pick up soon, I know how difficult it is to watch them feeling so poorly. Peter had his 1st GCF injection today following mega melphalan last friday and felt rather sickly for a few days but has not been too ill so…[Read more]

Hi Dai,
sorry to hear your not feeling too perky, Hope it gets better soon. Peters soda stream was bothered by velcade and his GP gave him some rather nice tablets that returned it to normal. Think they were something for an enlarged something or other you men have, it did work a treat so if it persists see your GP he did tell them on the day…[Read more]

Hi Marion
There is nothing much more I can add to the excelent advise of all of the above, however one of the things that I learnt at a myeloma infoday was that the people who are on trials, are having more personal attention than normal patients and it is thought that this very fact was a positive one from the patients point of view and…[Read more]

Hello Again.
Do I think that Peter got his mm being near to fuel from aeroplanes????
No I do think all the many injections he got to go to the Falklands and anywhere else may not have helped.
But in reality, there are many people on here who have never been on or near a plane or ship so how did they get it?
In Peters case I think his cards…[Read more]

Hi Eve
Peter had just finished his 6 months of injections for blood clots caused by the medication.. It took about 6 weeks before they diagnosed that then.
Realistically we have to understand that medicine is not an exact science and they do often get it wrong. But why do they get it wrong when you can tell them what it is… if I take one of…[Read more]

Hello.
I´m new to this so hope I don´t make a mess of things. I am 56 and was diagnosed with myeloma in 2005. I started chemo (cyclophosphomide, dexamethasone and revlimid) last July and had a stem cell transplant with melphalan in February of this year. It has been a very difficult time of course but am in remission now. Only problem is t…[Read more]

Went to hospital today for the new blood test results. They were even more frightening than we imagined.
In less than a week his numbers of light chains have doubled to 10,015
Bendamustine is not the treatment choice or option. Melphalan is to be used twice because Peter has plasma cells in his blood which is very worrying and after some…[Read more]

Hi Alistair
I can recommend the Freeman in Newcastle as it has a new purpose built cancer department and two wards and a day ward not to mention lots of absolutely wonderful and understanding staff. A hospital is only as good as the staff who run in and the commitment of the team in Haematology is amazing. We have met some lovely patients too…[Read more]
