Hi Adrian like Kevin said exactly three weeks from having the chemotherapy given to me before harvest which starts the body producing stem cell my hair fell out. For me as l had long hair was very traumatic but was warned this would happen around his time. I had Hairdresser on stand by and she came right around on that sunday for me and l shaved it all of which actually wasn’t as bad as l thought to be honest it was worse seeing it falling out.

You will have a very high dose of melphalane day after you go into have transplant which will wipe out any remaining cells then next day is when you will have your harvested stem cells put back in then it’s a case of waiting for them to do their magic all the best and keep strong. Kate

    Steriod treatment and dosage

Hi just wanted to ask has anyone been told that it’s been found in recent study that the four day treatment of steriods we take with treatment ie  four days Dex on four day off then four days on etc is not necessarily? I have been put on only once a week steriods with my lenalidomide as apparently any more than 40 mg doesn’t  aid recovery only gives us more side effects, l must say  it was music to my ears as l suffer very bad with side effect from the steriods so l am very happy and l trust my consultant, was just really interested in seeing if this is happening to anyone else.

    Hi susie

l for finished  velcade treatment in November and yes you need to do bloods before each velcade injection its a bit of a bind but they need to keep eye on what’s happening to all your blood counts, l go up to my local out patients blood testing department its local to me you just take a ticket and wait to get called. Never wait more than 5 mins unlike at local doctors where they are always running behind time. The advantage to velcade is it only takes a few minutes unlike an infusion so with blood tests on other days to in total only a hour or so for week. All the best xxsuperwoman kate

Hello l to like you experienced a lot of side effects while taking vtd, l thought it was the velcade giving me my symptoms but actually think it was the thalidomide. I too was very tired, l didn’t have swelling in my legs but they were very week even to the point that l couldn’t stand for very long, if l bent down to say get something out of low cupboard l could hardly get up had to hold onto something to pull myself up. I had three cycles of treatment the good news is that after treatment stopped it wasn’t long before that tiredness changed and l got my strength back in my legs. The good news is the treatment worked really well, keep going, rest when you can and don’t feel bad for not being able to do much let your body do its magic and get better.
