Hi Folks. I have Multiple Myeloma with Ameloid/Light Chain Production. I have been referred for Autograph Bone Marrow Transfer Treatment, which I understand from my wonderful consulting team is quite new (which means they are pretty much in the dark too, but they are still wonderful). Anybody out there with any experience of it?

Hi Ray, Welcome to our Group 🙂 .

Is Autograph Bone Marrow Transfer Treatment the posh name for a Stem Cell Transplant? SCT whilst not routine I do not think they would be classed as ?new?. Where are you being treated?

    Kind regards ? vasbyte

    Hi David,
Thanks for the words of welcome.
I'm not sure whether it's a new name for Stem Cell Transplant or not. I understand that this teatment involves leaching marrow chemically into my bloodstream, collecting it from there and storing it until needed, after radio and chemo therapies. I'm will be treated at The Beatson in Glasgow.
I'll be finding out more tomorrow from my consultant, but personal experience from someone would be useful. Having said that, my treatment has been a bit ad-hoc, since my condition doesn't follow any pattern, so it could change.

Yes, that sounds like a stem Cell Transplant. The leaching as you describe is probably the collection of stem cells which are forced out of the bone marrow and then collected. You will find many posts on here about SCT. Dai is the lad you want I think he has light chain Myeloma. You will find that Myeloma is a very individual decease even if you have the same type of myeloma.

    Kindest regards ? vasbyte

Thanks for the prompt reply, David. Liked the Freudian slip '…Myeloma is a very individual decease…' Made me laugh.

Hi Ray welcome from me too . As Min has said there are lots of people on here who have had a transplant so you are in the right place to find answers to any queries you may have It isnt a picnic , although some get through it relatively easily but it is well worth doing! Hopefully you will sail through and have a very long remission afterwards Do you know when you will be having yours yet? I know its scary but you will lots of support on here so keep in touch Best wishes Bridget

    Hi Min,

Thanks for the reply. No, I mean 'Autograph', I checked, but the name auto-graft also seems to appear on the web site pages. It seems though that there may be a number of treatments that are similar, or are even the same, with different names. But what do I know…

Anyway, when I'm deep in a blue funk or a foot is dropping off I'll be in touch for moral support.

Hi Bridget, Thanks very much for the good wishes. Don't be concerned about my state of mind, I'm quite relaxed about all of this, basically because there isn't an alternative, so why worry? Also, I have the advantage, if you can call it that, of having already 'died' after an accident when I was younger. Some years of surgery and recovery followed, so in some respects I'm a old hand in hospital situations. However, I do like to have as much information as I can get, I hate surprises.
Before I get the transplant we have some tidying up to do. I have an ameloid tumour, or mass, on my spine that will probably need shrunk by radiotherapy, a crumbling vertebrae (rugby injuries…), and a couple of other bits and pieces. Still I'm better than I was some months ago when I was more like a depressed jelly, unable to get out of bed, with about 25 litres of oedema fluid swimming around my body. Happy days. Ray.
