Tom I mentioned some time ago I had decided to make my own coffin from some old fencing wood my Son-In-Law had left over and you commented that you would like to see some photographs. The first batches are attached.

I am at the first assembly stage, which is really a check stage to make sure it fits together before my Grandchildren decorate the outside. After this stage I take it apart and send the 6 side panels to my Son who is organising the exterior decoration. Then I will put it back together and finish the inside, I was going to have bare wood to go with my Tree Hugging personality but my wife insists I look comfortable hence only the inside top will be bare wood. My wife is a big Cross Stitch fan and she is doing me a head cushion showing our Dogs and my Garden in full bloom.

I am not sure how many photographs I can attach. I will forward more when I get to the next stage.

I have found it a truly great experience which has meant we all recognise the ?elephant in the room?. Instead of whispered comments in the corner of the room or people siding up to the wife asking how I am doing, we all have a great laugh about how the coffin is coming on.

    Kindest regardsd – Vasbyte

It would only accept 5 photos so here are the next 4.

Outstanding. I'll be fascinated to hear of your proposed order of service to go with it!

    Cheers

Planning for that is well advanced, seriously. As is the remodelling of my son's grave with mine into one double plot with a new kerb set and headstones. 😎

Wow. I'm impressed. I haven't even got round to making a will yet.

Off the top of my head I'd like Spirit in the Sky played or maybe a good tune from Status Quo .. Down down deeper and down!

This has given me the push to get organised. I must at least get my will sorted.

Let's hope we both keep going for a while yet though.

    All the best

    Hi David
I think it,s great,it does get rid of the elephant too, must ask you??? is that a garden with a lovely lake at the bottom?????

Slim and I talk very openly about his illness, with grandchildren around,so if they have any questions,it can be talked about as a family.
Lets see some more pictures as you go on,must say you look if your many years off using it,better treat it for wood worm, you might live untill you 100.Eve

Amazing! I'm truly impressed with the skill. On a different note, I'd like a bit of Led Zeppelin

I am still thinking about music.

The only tune I have settled on is Red Sails in the Sunset by Acker Bilk (for those to young to remember him he is a Trad (thanks Scott) Jazz musician). I am hoping to have this played as I am lowered into my grave.

I like all music, but not a great music collector, from operas to Bop so I am trying to think of tunes that actually meant something to my wife and I.

Ruled out is "My Way" at the Vicars request he said he has heard it so many times he is sick of it 😀 😀 😀 .

It is the river Teign, they live in Shaldon by Teignmouth.

The wood is all ex fencing material and as such has all been " presure treated" so it should last for a good long time. Which, as I have no intention of going soon, is a real good thing 😉

Good idea to skip "My Way". I think everyone has overdosed on that one. Acker Bilk is a great choice. Not sure if he was Trade Jazz, more like TRAD!!

I'm thinking I'd like Jerusalem played at some point. Good and rousing.

I'm off to sort out my will now.

Thanks for getting me thinking about these things.

    Well done David,

I believe we all should have a choice so building your own must satisfy you inside.
At the moment I'm sorting out my own. Now I'm alone I believe it's something I need to do.
Any way back to you. I hope its along time until you need your own coffin

    Love lots
