I am really sorry to have to share the news with you all that my 'Outdoors Paul' died suddenly yesterday. He had his autograft in July and seemed to be recovering well. Then he had a high temperature a couple of weeks ago and had to be admitted to hospital. The doctors struggled to control the temperature with antibiotics and we found out on Monday that the myeloma had come back. We were still hopeful that another bout of chemotherapy might help. He was OK Tuesday/Wednesday, then yesterday morning had to be put on oxygen because he was struggling with his breathing. He deteriorated very suddenly. The hospital rung me at 2pm and I went straight over. Me and his mum and dad were there to say goodbye. He died within 2 hours of us getting to the hospital.
I wanted to let everyone on the forum know because he spent a lot of time reading and responding to your posts, and I know got a lot of support from you and knowing he wasn't alone. Thank you for that. I wish you all well.
With best wishes from Rachel, Paul's wife.

Dear Rachel
I am so sorry,Paul seemed to be doing so well, and if any one should have been able to get extra time,it should have been Paul,as he was one of the younger and fitter one,s on this forum,my thoughts are with you and his parents.
I lost my grandson with an infection all so unexpected, the shock and numbness, leaves you drained,I think time just gives you an acceptance that there was no more that could have been done.I know how much Paul enjoyed the out door life,I hope you will have wonderful memories to cherish. Please also remember you are also not alone.
Take care of yourself,I wish you a good future.Love Eve

Love Ali xx
I am really sorry to hear your news, I wish I could say something better but words are difficult at a time like this. I do not contribute often to the site but regularly read the posts and followed Pauls.
Take care love Gill
My Dear Rachel.
Such devastating news… I was certain that Paul, of all people would be strong enough to get into a full and long remission… you must feel terribly cheated… but this is the nature of MM. IMHO the most important reading in the bloods report is your Neutrophils… the governor of your immune system and if they fall too low and you have an infection, there is nothing to fight back with… I imagine that this is what happened in Paul's case.:-|
Please accept my condolences for you and your family and my deep regards for Paul… he was such a deeply supportive member of this board always amongst the first to respond with a positive, friendly message to those with worries and concerns… :-)… he will be sorely missed as a fellow MM'er and a friend.:-(
Dai.
Dear Rachel, please accept my most sincere condolences. In the short time I have known Paul he came across as a real nice guy. I will miss his posts.
Kindest Regards ? vasbyte

Dear Rachel
I am so sorry to hear about Paul's untimely and so sudden death. A terrible shock to all of you after such a fight to his SCT. He was such a regular contributor and very helpful to me when I was so worried about the rigmaroles of work. I shall miss his presence here so much, as Dai has said, a fellow traveller whom I hoped would keep us company and our spirits up, for a long time.
He will be sorely missed.
Much love Helen
