Hi Guys and Girls, It is 01:49 Christmas morning so firstly a Merry Christmas to you all.

I am 10 days from my hospital discharge following my SCT and all is progressing nicely I think.

I am starting to get some taste back in my mouth but as the Chemo recedes my teeth have started to either ache or become very sensitive to hot and cold. The aching comes and goes and is starting to disappear but not the sensitivity issue, I have tried Sensodyne toothpaste and things like that but nothing seems to cover it.
Has anybody had similar or found a cure or is it a case of just waiting for nature to take its course?

    Kindest regards
    David

Dear David – Happy Christmas to you. I can't remember having any tooth problems after transplant so I can't help you but there is bound to be someone on here who has. It may just be waiting for nature to take its course as your taste comes back. I hope you can find an answer.

    Love, Gaye x

    Dear David

Sorry I can't help. Frank has not started treatment so I don't know much about SCT or side affects. Just wanted to say that I am so glad you are feeling better. I have been following your posts and I think you are amazing.

I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and healthy new year and that your mouth starts to improve.

    Love Jean xx

    Hi David
glad to hear your progressing nicely, Peter had really sensitive teeth following his sct, He still cant drink coke from the fridge. Sensodyne do a variety of toothpastes and mouth washes, I don't remember the name of the toothpaste but its top of there range and it worked for Peter along with the mouth wash. The secret of Sensodyne is not to wash it out with water but just spit it out and leave the residue to do the rest. Sorry if I am trying to teach my granny how to suck eggs. But lots of people don't know not to wash it out after use.
Visit the dentist when its safe to do so. Just in case theres a cavity there. Hope its not been too much of a bother

Hi Min, Don't every feel you are "teaching granny how to suck eggs" with me. It is only the last two days I have been leaving the Senodyne on my teeth 😉 . No, I am not the brightest penny in the bank!

It was nice to know that this is just part of the process. Fortunatley it is just the back right of my mouth so I can eat and drink ok.

I have now fully regained my taste buds, had three cans of Guinness yesterday. The third one went down like liquid gold and I think I could have downed another when my wife shut the bar:-D 😀 .

    kindest regards

    David

    Hi David,

For sensitive gums try the new Colgate Sensitive Pro Relief toothpaste. I had sensitive teeth and had been using Sensodyne without much effect, my dentist recommended the Colgate one (in fact gave me a sample tube). I must admit I was not convinced, but now having used it it works – rub a little on the sensitive areas and it really makes a difference. I also started using an electric brush rather than manual and my teeth and gums are now fine.

Glad to hear you are doing well – keep enjoying the beer!

    Happy New Year, Jill
