Hi Ann,

Welcome (?) to the Forum. As you have found us today it would seem you already have been searching the WWW. There is a lot of duff/out of date information out there. You only really need two sites this one and the Macmillan site. This is an excellent site and all the information on it is up to date and if that is not enough we have our own resident Myeloma Nurse in the form of Ellen who you can telephone free of charge.

We have a mixture of Carers and Sufferers. But everybody will be supportive and try to answers the many questions you might have, if not now in the near future.

I have Myeloma I was diagnosed in July 2009 and am at the moment fit and well, in fact I am just about to jet off to Spain for a week. This disease is very individual and what goes well for one person does not necessarily go well for another so take things as they come and at all times remain positive.

We go with Citybond Sure travel. I am going to Spain on Thursday for a week and the cost for me was £144 and for the wife £65. I am 15 months post SCT.

    Have a good trip.

Tell the Doctor the family history and ask him to investigate for signs of MM.

I had mm 2 years before it was diagnosed.

It tends to stay with you I think, it certainly has with me, but it has reduced in intensity. Now it is there but I hardly notice it, when it started I could hardly walk.

Hi Littlefox, I have Myeloma but I just wanted to say hallo, Welcome (?) and it is nice to see you posting. All the people on this site, and we are a small merry band I have to say, know what you are going through and of course you partner, Name?.

I woke up on the 9th July 09 and broke my neck getting out of bed – truly. But several operations later, a diagnosis of Myeloma, an SCT and I am fit and well. I have PN in my feet but it is not too bad. Believe there is light at the end of this very dark tunnel. Keep strong but let your emotions flow out when you need to.

I cannot think of any "sayings" I use although I probably do so without thinking.

I do remember that there was a saying that went "If you want to know what your wife will look like in 20 years time look at her mother" and that would fit in with your comments. Although I must say after 49 years of marriage my wife does not look like her Mother 😀 . Best leave this post before I get into trouble 😀 😉

Hi Jean, I would try to keep Frank, and yourself of course, away from anybody with a cold/cough etc… if you can. Ask friends not to call if they have been in contact with someone who has had any form of infection. Avoiding shaking hands or any physical contact with other people is something else you can do.

The normal range for a healthy male is White Blood Count (WBC) 4 to 11 and Neutrophils (Neuts) 2.0 to 7.5. I do not think you need to be alarmed, just cautious. During treatment, April 2010, my WBC went to 0.74 and Neuts to 0.19 and I am still standing:-D. However my wife put me into virtual quarantine end of story 😉 until the next blood test when they had bounced back up again. Cautious with a capital C

This is all a bit "deep" for me but I did think Eva's comment forgive his mistakes, but not his certainties was excellent and did made me think.

When I hear people pontificating about this and that I always reminded myself of the eminent Doctor who upon the invention of the steam train announced that the human body could not go faster than 5 MPH 😀 and I remind myself that through history there have been lots of ?eminent Doctors?. Treatment with Leaches was standard practice not that long ago:-( .

At the end of the day we may well argue about various treatments but unless I could go private, like Eva, I do not believe I have any real choice apart from refusing treatment altogether that is. But shall I go this path or that, no, I do not think so. And, then in the back of my mind would be the nagging question, ?Is this course of treatment being recommended for my health or because it brings in more money?? or ?Is this course of treatment being recommended for my health or because the NHS is trying to save the money??

At the end of the day I cling to the hope that the person sitting opposite me in the consulting room has my best interest at heart AND knows what he/she is talking about ? but does he/she really know or is he/she just two pages ahead of me! In Eva?s case one was at least 5 pages behind her!

Hi Tony, Welcome (?) to our little group.

I have the bog standard Myeloma but several on here have your type so I am sure they will be along to give you information support and advice shortly.

I am 69 and was diagnosed in Jul 2009, when I broke my neck getting out of bed!, I had an SCT 15 months ago and am at present fit and well.

You will find this a really helpful site, not just the forum but the site itself has load of UP TO DATE information and if that is not enough you have the MyelomaUK Nurse who is always on line to help.

I wish you the best of luck with your treatment and look forward to further posts in the future.

Thanks Guys and Gals, I would add that I am not complaining in the least.

My Consultant said basically the same thing i.e. "the good news is your body is fighting them" he also added that my general blood measurements were all in the normal range so not to worry and keep taking the Soluble Paracetamol when needed.

It certainly has not stopped me doing what I want to do, having just fitted my new integrated Fridge Freezer. I am always on the lookout for little things around the house that I can future proof and I noticed the toilet handle was a little slack so had a Plumber friend of mine take a look at it when he was around the house. When he dug into it he found the water pipe rusted through ? phew !!!! Amazing how one thing led to another?
