Thanks Eve, she will read this, so perhaps she can bring in my Beano mug!
Seems a while away, but roll on home time! Thanks for the encouragement, Chris
HI Vicky and Colin,
Pretty dull today really, my line is a bit less painful, and all I have had done is some anti viral and tummy medicine, and mouthwashes, and fluids all day ready for my chemo tomorrow.
I am surviving the food, although mealtimes are hardly the highlight of the day!
I enjoyed Rolf Harris tonight, and the daytime antiques shows which I don't always get to see, so not all bad!
Keep smiling everyone!
Chris
Cheers Tom, so far so good, I'm feeling well!
Chris
Sounds good, what bike does he ride? Wish him well with the recovery! Chris
Thanks for all your good luck messages!
Well I am now settled in to a nice room in Musgrove Hospital with a view from the window into a nice little garden area, it's a double room but no neighbour yet!
This afternoon I had a central line fitted into my neck, near the jugular (luckily the knife didn't slip!) so it is easier to give me the chemo etc, and I have started on various anti infection tablets. the central line was done under a local anesthetic (wow, i spelt it right) and is a bit sore, but getting better gradually. Sounds worse than it is, but I havn't tried sleeping yet! I have brought my own pillows as a bit of home comfort.
I have wi-fi, and feel fine, so now have to wait for the next episode tomorrow. Lena was able to keep me company today which was nice – so far so good.
Keep smiling everyone. I'm looking forward to Dallas on Wednesday to see what happens when John Ross gets arrested after his ex-lovers grisly plunge from the tower-block, you have to feel a bit sorry for him 😀 .
Chris
HI Vicky and Colin,
Cool picture – nice to meet you at last! Lena is camera shy but I will try to include her in a new pic, or attach one here if I can work out how to!
We had a lovely meal thank you, huge steak (for me) and a bottle of our favourite Pinot!
My new blog is called 'Revving up for SCT' and is one of the discussions under 'Treatment' on the discussion forum. (By the way, why do the new comments end up at the bottom of the discussion, or can I change my settings?).
Enjoy the home cooking Guys (perhaps you could smuggle some food in a hot water bottle or something – yuo could cut it open with a pen-knife if you get hungry Colin!).
Have a great week,
Chris x
Thank Eliz, Yes, I am girding my loins ready for the morning, and have had a lovely weekend enjoying the sun, gardening and organizing everyone to do things when I have 'gone' so to speak! Oh, and having a final thrash on the bike!
Have spent today weeing into a large container for one of my tests,:-| and now prepared to have every bodily function examined in detail for the next few weeks – sigh.:-S
Once ensconced I will let you all know how things are going, now, where is that toothbrush………..?
Chris
Blimey David, I was hoping to get back to work once I get out! :-/
I love my wife, but I think I would go nuts if I couldn't see my Mates, or do anything for 8 weeks. If that's the advice, then I guess that will be the only choice, but 'her in doors' is constantly nagging when I go to the pub etc at the moment so I havn't been overly cautious so far.
Thanks for your good wishes, I know they are a fantastic team on Ward 9, I will definitely try the throat soothing drink!
Best wishes, Chris
Hi Both, I'm really sorry to hear about your delay – it must be pretty gutting after the build up – still, another week of freedom at least! As far as I know I am still in on Monday, I will continue my new Blog and let you know how I am getting on.
Have you seen the Stand up To Cancer programme tonight? Fantastic efforts for raisng money to fight this terrible disease, those people were so brave to relate their stories, I spent half the evening with my eyes full of tears, I hope it helps the Scientists to help us all which can only be good! 🙂
Keep smiling Guys, and enjoy your week,
Chris
Hi Vicky and Colin, well done both of you and like me you will be getting set for the 22nd – what a coincidence! I am frantically trying to organize the garden, and work stuff in case I am 'inside' for a long time, but also avoid catching any of the Autumn bugs which seem to be going around at the moment. We have a meal booked at out favourite restaurant for next Saturday to fortify me before facing the hospital food! I am sure we can both get a great result from our SCT's and a long remission.
Stay positive, and keep us posted,
Chris
Well done Vicky and Colin! I said it would be fine, and tomorrow you will do even better, particularly with that double dose. I found day two much easier, knowing the form and what to expect, but daytime TV was getting a bit tedious by the end! Good luck and stick with it, you are nearly there and can have a huge rest at the end of the week. As it is going well they may want to go for day 3 to collect 4 million, as that will do for 2 transplants. Grit your teeth Colin, it will be worth it to finally feel better agin.
Thanks for posting Vicky, as we are right behind you, and so pleased it is going well, all the best, Chris and Lena x
Oh, just spotted your other question, it takes the lab about an hour or so to get the result of how many, and you can either hang around or they will ring you. With me, I went back to the hospital in Taunton on day 1 so they told me there. There are 2 machines, the newer ones are faster and I had that on the second day and we were done by 2.00pm, but they like the old machine as they have had more experience with it. Chris
HI Guys, yes still here! One eye on eBay and one on Flog It, and my third on this laptop! Yes, I had a score of 13 on day 1, and about 21 on day 2, but they didn't wait for the scores, just plugged me straight in both days. On both days they collected just over 2 million which is the target for one transplant, as they like to keep enough for 2 goes in the future. I hope that helps you both for tomorrow (oh, the nurses love chocs to munch during the day!)
Chris
Hi Tom, you're on! I will try to beat 16 days if I can!
Chris
Hi Vicki, I can understand that you feel restless, but tomorrow will soon arrive! Did Colin have double doses of the GCSF, or single ones? – I did double doses for 4 days in the evenings. I would say it is a good sign that he is having a strong reaction, the first time I didn't feel much, but with the double doses I did have aching legs and back – I made the comment on the site that my legs were aching, but it got worse and it must have been the GCSF. It must hurt a bit to have the poor little cells pulled out of the bone marrow!
Lena says she is confident that he will do well!
I would bargain on doing a second day though as it is quite a slow process, but on the other hand you may be lucky – we are all different which is why it is difficult to give advice, and why the doctors tend not to say too much.
Go for it Guys!
Chris
