Hi Eve i can only go off my mum, although she isnt on any treatment at the moment because of fluid on her lung. Mum only had one week of velcade and her proteins went down 10%. The only side effect she felt was fatigue. She went in and had fluid put in and then the vecade. The reason they put of mums velcade is because her kidney function had gone up from 150 to 157. So its swings and roundabouts really. I hope that you and slim are ok and the treatment does him good, please keep in touch and let us know.

Thank you Carol, believe it or not they are 6 of us brothers and sisters. Me and my sister are the main carers, take mum to appointments, do shopping, check mum is ok and on the right medication, ring round everywhere and tell people off when need be. We go for our day with mum to her house on saturday and have a good natter some dinner and a brew. Thats our day, today it will be at the hospital. My brothers are not living near home so keep in touch to see how things are, one brother lives with mum and he helps in the house etc. My mum is the same she worries that she is dependent on us and doesnt want us to be running around after her(how she puts it) But we love our mum and have told her we dont mind at all doing anything for her( she has done it for us all our lives, we lost our dad in 1989 age 52 to cancer) So mum is probably like you The carers worry about their mum, dad ,husband wife etc, and the mm sufferer worry about them. Swings and roundabouts as they say.
Thank you again for your reply and advice it is greatly appreciated

We now know what the breathlessness is,mum has fluid on one of her lungs.she is in hospital on the mau, they are doing an injection to get a sample of the fluid to see what it is and also an ultrasound of her chest. So its now a waiting game again.
Thank you for your support it is most appreciated

What a nightmare for you Dai, i do remember the stockings and injections after having an operation myself quite a few years ago. Its not a nice thing.
I am glad that they know what it is and are sorting it.
I do hope that you feel better in yourself soon.

    Hi Jill,
We spoke to the gp about them and he asked us to half the dose, when mum went to hospital on monday her blood pressure was ok so you may be right. The good news as they told is her protiens have gone down from 107 to 97 so the velcade is working.
The bad news is that mum only had 2 days treatment but when we went on monday they said she would have to take a break as her kidney function had risen from 150 to 157(not to sure how all that works) they said they cant let it go higher, they are also worried that her heart isnt as strong as they thought she was borderline on the ecg and echo(again not sure ) So we are to go back on monday and they will do bloods again to see if she can have more treatment. If not im not sure either lower dose or other options,so we will have to see.
Had a cry on monday as mum looks frail and ill but back to being positive now and keeping our fingers crossed everything goes well.
Thank you all again for your advice and support it is most appreciated at this very trying time
