Just like the last few posts, I have not being visiting this site for some time now. However, the news of Dai's passing has come as a shock and great personal sadness. Nonetheless, the sad news is tempered with the knowledge that there are very many wonderful and lovely people who contribute to this forum and I am sure that Dai's family and friends (including his Cyberfriends) are consoled by the many justifiable tributes paid to him.

    Hi Trish,
I have'nt been on this forum for quite a while now, mainly due to the fact that my wife, Cecilia, has been doing very well during the past few months. She was diagnosed in June 2006 and had one SCT that was not successful. She has been through all of the various treatments (chemo) since the SCT failed in 2007 and started on Velcade plus Dex for a few months before she had to change due to the usual side effects (PN and Diabetes etc). In Nov 2010 she started back on Vecade, without the Dex, and has fared very well by all accounts (thats nearly three years ago!!). So Trish, hopefully Peter will do just as well as Cecilia and reap the benefits of extended Velcade treatment. By the way, Cecilia gets it injected "subcut" (subcutaneously) and it is hassle free!.
Best of luck to both of you,
    John

Hi Debs and all other kind folks.
My wife, Cecilia, has been on her current treatment of Valcade for more than 12 months now and is doing quite well TG. She has had PN for quite a while (including the dreaded cold feet) but since she went unto "Subcut" earlier this year, her PN has diminished greatly. Now she still has coldness in her feet and lower leg, but with the near constant use of the electric blanket, she gets along nicely. It was through this Discussion Forum that we heard of Subcut and we subsequently convinced her doctor to use this method. By the way, Ceo has not been on Dex since more than nearly two years ago because it and the steroids brought about Steroid Induced Diabeties (which she no longer suffers from). Hope this info is of some help.
    Kindest regards to all.

Thank you Dai for starting this thread and allowing us (Bridgets friends) to honour her memory. I have been away for the past few days, hence my late response. As with so many others, I never had the pleasure of meeting Bridget, but yet I always felt that she knew what I needed to know when I asked a question. In other words, she inspired me to carry on and not lose faith while caring for my wife, who, like so many other MM sufferers, continues to do battle.
I salute you, dear Bridget and will never forget you. RIP

    Dear Siobhan,
I am so saddened to hear of your Mum's passing. The sentiments expressed so eleoquently by other contributors are a testament to her wonderful and many contributions to this forum. Bridget has been a great help to me and so many others over the past number of years and I know now that her work on this Earth is done. I am so sad at your loss and yet so very glad that I had the opportunity to have made her aquaintance, albeit in Cyberspace. Ar dheis De, go raibh a anam.

    Hi Deborah,
I just want to let you know that Dai has (as is usual) given a great account of Valcade. My wife, who is 58 yrs old,has been on Valcade since last Nov and is doing very well. She was diagnosed 6 yrs ago and has had all the usual treatments (SCT, Revlimid, Thalidimide etc and many variations). Initially the Valcade was administered twice weekly and now, since Jan, we attend every two weeks. Thanks to this Forum (and her Consultant)my wife was the first patient in Ireland (to our knowlede) to avail of "Subcut" and it is so easyly administered. As Dai has said, it is such an individual disease, treatment and side-effects are also varied. I hope that your mother is somewhat encouraged by the comments and that her treatment works as well for her as it has done for my wife.
    Kindest regards,
    John

    Hello Tom,
I would be grateful if you would pass on my very best wishes to Bridget. Whereas I am on Facebook (very rarely) I could not find the MM UK website. Perhaps you could help me here?. Furthermore, I have been rather slow to contribute as much as I used to on this forum, but time is a bit hard to find. I do, however, regularly look in to see how you all are keeping and try to keep up with the latest news/gossip. My wife Cecilia is still doing very well on Valcade tg (that she gets every two weeks)and despite the odd chest infection she is in very good form. Through the help of this forum, she gets the chemo injected subcutaneously and has no bad side effects. I believe that she is the first patient in Ireland to receive her chemo this way and the team are quite happy with the result.
    Kindest regards to all,
    John

    Hi Bridget,
I have'nt been contributing to here for a good while but I do monitor most weeks. So sorry to hear that things are gone a bit awry, but knowing you (from the many wonderful and inspiring contributions that you have made) I'm sure you will overcome this latest hurdle. Wishing you well and thinking of you,

Good evening Mari.I have been caring for my wife for more than 5 years now, a lot of the "Jargon" goes over my head, so I will only tell you that she is on Velcade for over a year now and is doing quite well. In fact, compared to last Christmas, when she was just two months into that particulat treatment, she has certainly improved in strength and appearance. For the first few months she took Valcade twice per week but now only once a fortnight and the initial side effects (exhaustion, queezyness, eye/mouth and chest infections) are nowhere near as bad. Recently, due to reading about it on this site, we requested "Subcut" and it works a treat. Fortunately she never had very bad PN, so we are particularly lucky that way. So Mari, I suggest that you go right ahead with confidence and hopefully you will find some little light in this dark tunnel. I wish you and Streve well.
    Kindest regards,
    John

Thank you, Eve, Bridget and Keith. Cecilia had the Hickmann Line installed some years ago and it caused fierce infection problems eventually. I had forgotten about the Picc line, so I will ask about it next time, and let you know of the outcome.
    Kindest regards,
    John
